Apartment name plates?
I notice that everyone in our building has their name on the door. Are we supposed to buy a name plate from somewhere to put up on our apartment door? If so, where do you get them from?

Re: Apartment name plates?
Depending of the house talonmies or isännöitsijä should take care of it, if you ask. I assume you've just moved in - they probably wish you to give some sort of notification of yourselves anyway (among other purposes to know who are the residents they may let in in case you ever forget your keys).

You need to go and get yourself into the house book at the janitors office - they deal out car places, sauna, laundry times etc. and also give key assistance if you lock yourself out and with plumbing and whatnot. If you don't "live" there according to the house book then you stay on the street.

Re: Apartment name plates?
Have you ever seen in any shop those alphabet letters (white color, about 1.5 cm high)
used to compose tenant names in building billboards, mailslots, etc. ?
Or are they available uniquely in "janitors only" clubs?

The only place I have seen them is in a locksmiths shop. A friend of mine got a ticking off from his landlord as he adjusted the letterbox on his front door to read "ei oo telkkari"

It is what it is, make of it what you will.
Re: Apartment name plates?
I have a follow-up question. I see most of the doors have similar "ei mainoksia" signs on them, where can I get one? Also: does it work?

I remember a few years ago when they distributed the telephone directories (or was some other
mass distribution from city of Helsinki / YTV?) they had the brilliant idea of printing a page with
two large stickers: "Ei mainoksia" and "Vain ilmaislehtiä".
Maybe Yellow Pages advertisers weren't too happy about it, as the experiment didn't continue.

I don´t live in a company, so I get my plates (post box, door, whatever) from K-Rauta. You pick the size, the font, the text, pay, and get the plates by post a few days later. The only place I have seen them is in a locksmiths shop.

OMG I live for the advertising brochures - I wouldn't dream of putting one of those signs up!melfar wrote:I have a follow-up question. I see most of the doors have similar "ei mainoksia" signs on them, where can I get one? Also: does it work?

Actually it seems everyone has made their own "ei mainoksia" signs for their doors in our building.

Re: Apartment name plates?
People just make those themselves. And yes, it works, those who deliver ads are not allowed to put the paper stuff to post boxes that say "EI MAINOKSIA". (consumer law or something like that)I see most of the doors have similar "ei mainoksia" signs on them, where can I get one? Also: does it work?

Re: Apartment name plates?
But there is a difference with "advertisements" and "local newspaper"... so if you want one but not the other or neither...

Re: Apartment name plates?
Does the ad sign have to be all yes or no? Can't you tease the poor postman by something like:
"NO ADS: except for pizza joints closer than 2 km, free tickets, Kotijäätelö timetables, and ads with a
picture of a pretty woman under 21 y.o. All improperly posted ads will be reported to the Authority".

You can try, but if you complain to the delivery guys you'll get the frozen dogturds... but they might be the local kids too...
