i think you will need a new one anyway unless you are a citizen (mostly you are not). Also do not forget to renew your KELA card.

I think they scrapped them. I got a plastic permanent residence permit after 5 years in 2007 but I think they stopped doing them shortly after. They were just a money making scheme anyway.
Probably you still need to go to the police station and have your status changed in the computer system to permanent though. Ring them and ask. If you live in HKI it's that one in Malmi.
Your Kela card will only be valid for 5 years too, you definitely need to get that updated to a permanent one.

Based on my reading of
Aliens Act, sections 161g-h you should be OK. If you think you might need (at some point, somewhere (Maybe for KELA?)) a document to prove your right to reside (permanently) here, that should be available from police.

The physical Kela card still has some use when visiting a pharmacy (for prescription drugs) or private doctors (to get the partial refund easier), but more important is that you are correctly recorded in the databases as somebody entitled to Finnish social security, if you ever need it.
I do not know if there would be any actual problem with it, but it would seem safest to check now when there is no urgency.

As long as you are "in the computer" domiciled as permanent then the residence permit is a bit moot.. they don't hand out RP's any more for EU Citizenry, rather a "proof of registration"... the system has changed a bit.

Thanks for the replies.
I`m certainly in someones computer somewhere, maybe i`ll check out my status for what its worth.
The card that expired is still in mint condition since i don`t think i ever used it or even had it on me for that matter.

go to the immigration police and they should put a permanent rp stamp inside your passport.
After my 1st 5 year rp this is what i got.
Ive also been asked to show it a couple of times when applying for housing.
