Returning goods.

Post by Grury » Thu Jan 21, 2010 10:19 am

Hi all,

Does anyone know what are the laws on returning goods in Finland.
I was under the impression that you could return any goods within 1 or 2 weeks after you bought them.
At least thats not the policy at Verkkokaupa.com. I got myself a Netbook, which wasnt too happy with the overall performance, when I went to the shop this morning they told me that they dont take computers back.
Has anyone had experience with returning computers, even though there wasnt anything wrong with it, as such.

Cheers.

Yes, in distance selling, see: http://www.kuluttajavirasto.fi/en-GB/co ... ternet-tv/

When bought from the shop, no, although Gigantti has advertised some kind "satisfaction guarantee" for 30 days or so. Otherwise it is shop's own decision if they want to give money, or some of it, back. Hardware stores usually give only 85% back in case of returns, but if you are "good customer" you can talk it easily to 100%.

I bet they would take it back if it was unopened and unused, but since its a computer and you have now taken it out of the package, used it, changed settings, taken off the clear plastic film protecting it from scratches etc, they can no longer sell it as new. I mean I am not defending the store here, its too bad you are unhappy and can't get a refund, but I also understand the store's point of view here too. I had the same issue when I made the mistake of buying an LG cell phone. I thought I liked it in the store, but after using it a few days I hated it, and it was too late to return. Luckily I managed to sell it without too big of a loss.

That might be what you should try too, see if you can sell it and next time try to test the computer as much as you can before you buy it. Good luck!

Thanks.
yeah I quite understand their position too, although when I spoke to one of the guys in the shop (not the returns dungeon), he said that it was ok and that they would send it back to the manufacturer, for repackaging (sounded weird though). I havent used it for more than half hour, so it is in mint condition. The issue is just with the open box and the installed operative system.
I guess will give it another try later, when the grumpy dude from this morning finishes his shift :)

Cheers

yeah thats a good idea. I have noticed many times it just all in who you deal with. One person might say no way, and the next might be totally cool with it. Tell them when you go back that you were told that it would be ok to return it if you were unhappy and demand your rights :)

But don't be surprised if they know your rights better than you do.

Hehe yeah again it all depends who you deal with. I say its worth trying your luck. It at least isn't gonna get any worse than it already is, you are stuck with that computer now, so its not like they'll stick you with another one. The next one will just tell you no, and you'll have to go home. But good luck!

Several months ago I bought a digibox from verkkokauppa. Before going to the shop I did a search on their internet site and knew the exact model I will be buying. At home I installed the device, but it didn't display the pay channels... Then I took it back. Its model was something like 6130T. The guy told me that was a "terrestrial" receiver, I should have bought 6130C which is "cable". I was able to convince the return-dungeon guy, cos he also couldn't find any remark on the box that it was meant for terrestrial broadcast, except from the "T" on the model code. He didn't look happy with the defeat
