My wife and I will be starting a business soon. We had a meeting with someone from the unemployment office who explained how we should go about to get things done, like business plan and so on. We will have a more detailed discussion as soon as she calls us back to set a next meeting.
She also mentioned that we could both apply for starttiraha. Has anyone got any experience with that? I find it hard to believe that we would BOTH get it? She said starttiraha is 590 EUR, but I would assume that is before taxes are taken off.
Also, long does it generally take from the time you apply until you actually get it (if approved)?

Re: Starttiraha questions
Hi Sandra, thanks for the information.
From what we heard during that meeting, it is not possible to both have a toiminimi if it is for the same business. It would need to be another type of business (partnership), but the next meeting should hopefully clear that up.
I believe we have a pretty solid businessplan and good prospects for the future, so hopefully they will see that too.
The business we are going to set up is an internet webhosting business. I myself have had years of experience in this field, so I definitely have the knowlegde needed to run this kind of business. But again, it's up to them to decide, so here's hoping they will think it is profitable enough
The best of luck with the contiuation of your business too!

Re: Starttiraha questions
IIRC you have to be on the VAT register to qualify for startti-raha. But that is quick and easy to do.
One of the things to think about when you are choosing the type of company (Toiminimi, Oy, Ky etc) is LIABILITY. If you are putting personal assets into the company and/or if you are going into a risky business of some kind then an Oy might be a better choice. But the TE-keskus can advise you best on this as they have your business plan.
