Regarding Birth Certificate
Re: Regarding Birth Certificate
No, you don´t have to give the name, and there are no birth certificates in Finland. The baby will be Baby Surname in papers. That is, until you decide of the name. Usually people do that after 2-3 months.
Re: Regarding Birth Certificate
The evangelical tradition in Finland is to baptise the child around the two-month-old mark. Until the child is baptised, it doesn't have a name - this of course doesn't apply to secular couples, but it's the tradition upon which Finland's system has been built. Therefore, there is no prerequisite to naming the child or obtaining any documentation until some months after it has been born. Ours is due in approximately a week and we haven't settled on a name yet - my wife doesn't even want to know in advance what gender it is.
