Is work permit under strict control these days?

Post by x315 » Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:48 pm

Hi everyone,

First of all, I'm from Asia, and I'm having work permit in a Europe country.
I'm quite sure that I'll get an offer from Finland soon. I'm a experienced programmer and the offer will be a senior IT position in Helsinki.
However, one of my friend told me that I'd better consult a Finnish lawyer to understand the situation of work permit these days.
It could be so that chances are I will be rejected by the authority, coz it has becomes extremely harsh in some EU countries to get a work permit, due to financial crisis.
Before consulting a lawyer, I think it would be nice to ask people online. After some googling I found this place is full of warmhearted people from Finland.
I'd appreciate anyone who would leave her/his advices and concerns.

Thanks &
Regards

If it is a Shengen country, the permit should also be valid in Finland.

No it is not.

As far as the original question, I do not think getting the permit is that hard in this particular case, but it might take some months - and unless I missed some relevant paragraph you can't work here before getting the permit. So, if possible, I'd suggest after getting a work offer in Finland, submit the application for permit while staying where you currently are and move here only when the paperwork is in order.

if you have a work contract then you will get a work permit.
If you wish to convince people of something, it is more useful to be entertaining than to be right

Hi,

If you get a job in Finland, there will not be any problems to get a permit. Your employer in Finland needs to process the employment documentation for your permit, if you are not in Finland at the moment, and the basis of the residence is work.
You can apply the permit (after you have the documentation from the employer) in any Finnish embassy.

If you have any question, just contact diretly to http://www.migri.fi/netcomm/content.asp?path=8,2473. As this service is free of change, personally I don't see any point to pay anyhting for a lawyer.

It would not hurt to ask a Finnish lawyer. I met a New Zealand woman who said she worked in London for a few years. But when she tried to renew her work permit last fall, they rejected it due to the high unemployment of British citizens. She was forced to move back home. Better to be safe than sorry.

Btw, your Finnish employer can apply a statement from the unemployment office/Ministry of employment and the economy within this form: http://www.suomi.fi/suomifi/english/ese ... index.html

In Finland the immigration and employment office are both involved on the desicion making when it's a question of a worker's residence permit.

If your employer wants to to relocate to Finland, they should take case of the permit process by proving the supporting documentation. Without the employer documentation, there is no change to get a permit based on employment.
