wedding cake & reception gift for the guest

Hi,I would like to know which is THE place to order wedding cake and the cost too.The cake place has to be not more than 30 minutes of driving around Mikkili.And also is it a trend to give out small gifts to the attended guests after the reception?

Do people in Finland have any traditions with a wedding cake like freezing the top
tier for the first anniversary or things like that? (People I know who have tried that
mention the cake tasted like cardboard, seems like a waste of good cake).

Wedding cakes are horrendously expensive in the US (labelling anything wedding related
raises the prices by a large percentage), so instead we got many large normal cakes from
a great local specialty cake place. We had chocolate decadence cakes, two different kinds of
cheesecakes, lemon filled vanilla, carrot cake, etc... Everyone got something they liked,
many people tried multiple cakes. Very few leftovers.

Which leads too... what do you and your guests like? What would help you enjoy the
day?

No. The only thing I can think about is the little wedding couple on top of the cake. And even that is not a must nowadays. Usually the bride decides, and the cake can be anything. At the latest wedding I attended the groom had chosen the cake. They had a Star Wars cake with little Luke Skywalker and princess Leia on top of it.

I just remembered one thing. After the couple has cut the cake they try to stomp their foot as fast as possible. The one who is quicker gets to be the boss in the house.

Yes for the wedding its you get the gifts. Might end up with three irons, and fugly glass birds, but indeed the thank you is the same list as the wedding invitation with a 1/2 postcard sized wedding picture thank you (the photo place will know... kiitoskortti , they just want the amount). I did a memento as a "newspaper" having our baby photos and parents' wedding pictures and rude stories of old weddings and all kinds of family inside jokes that was given as the "programme" with the maps & stuff. As far as parties go that was a well-done event. Not that it lasted, but thats another story.

Yes they do, you always cut the second layer so that the top tier is left whole, this is then taken home and frozen until your first wedding anniversary, every wedding that I have been to in Finland this has been done , and I have been to many, this was also done at my wedding, but it just ended up in the bin because we could not bare to eat it

No they do not.

Top layer is reserved for the couple, and they cut this top level and eat from it.
Guests eat from other layers.

Then it is given to them to take home and do as they please. It is generally finished sometime during wedding night/following days.

Our wedding cake was provided by the reception place - a simple sponge with strawberries and lots of cream. It was all cut up and eaten. All the Finnish weddings Ive been to have had a cream cake as a wedding cake so I think its not so wise to save it

I did make little gifts for the guests, just some Finnish chocs tied up with one of our colours. I think the majority of people ate them with coffee and a few took them home.

You can just see the little pink bundles on the table

Yes, wedding cakes here in the US are ridiculously expensive. Hopefully the bride won't feel pressured to buy an elaborate cake and will just choose something she loves for her wedding. Freezing the wedding cake tradition is fun and creates a nice memory even though the cake doesn't taste good after a year in the freezer!
