Re: Starting up an African restaurant

Re: Starting up an African restaurant
Before doing anything, ask yourself, can you balance your household budget, if you can't chances are you will be running into difficulties within 1-3 mths. Do you have a Hygiene Pass, HYGIENIAOSAAMISKORTTI , In Finland all food handlers need to know their food handling science, well for that matter all over the civilised world, In Finland, no Hygiene Pass no Kitchen.
I am not trying to put you down or anything of the sort, Having worked in the food industry professionally for over 25 years around the world and also run 2 cafe/ restaurants, Please let me ask these honest questions. DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR FRIENDS WHO TELL YOU IT'S A GREAT IDEA, because when you're broke these guys will disappear.
Do you have any working experience in a kitchen other than in your household.
Be very honest with yourself, can you afford your restaurant being empty for 3 mths without clients, Yes you will get clients, but you'll hardly be able to cover your rent or electricity.
If you're expecting your business to come from Expatriates, bro forget about it, Unless it's a kioski style of fast food with takeaway or pizza-kebab style joints.
Can you cost your recipe? how much it would cost to prepare your food against selling your food without forgetting the TAXES.
Are you ruthless, No credit sales to friends or family, Problem with friends especially the expatriate kind, they will beg for credit terms, which they will "settle" later, only problem is You will be surprised how many of these friends will cross the road pretending to have not seen you.
Bro if you are rich and have a lot of money than go ahead, but a word of advice, DON'T GO INTO A BUSINESS, YOU HAVE ZERO EXPERIENCE OR IDEA ABOUT. If you still want to go ahead, at least go work in a kitchen first, hotel, restaurant . learn how to handle a knife, The mistake People make as per regarding the food industry is everyone's will compare against the successful business without realising for every succesfull restaurant here in Finland, a hundred closed shop within 6 mths, don't believe me, go to those shops selling Kitchen equipment, the used one of course. I have known of 1 particular oven which has passed through 7 different owners. Last and not least, if you have a social life say goodbye, in the restaurant business, you work 7 days a week, 12-14 hours a day, can you hack it? Sorry to be a spoilsport mate, just seen to many friends who lost their pants ignoring sound advice.
