Students expenses.

Post by 3307973 » Mon Mar 01, 2010 8:02 pm

Hei!
I want to go to study in Finland for half of a year... But i'm afraid i won't have enough money to invest in this trip. So I want to ask students, who study in Finland, or anyone who can help me in this question, how much money do you spend in a month in general i mean without great shopping, buying expensive things & without paying for student hostel.
I'll be happy to read anything about this question. Thanks a lot!! Kiitos!

Foreign students who need a residence permit based on studying are required to have 500 per month. If you find a cheap place to live in Seinäjoki that should be enough.

Do you mean 500 euro per month from Erasmus program?
If yes, so i'm going to study by this program, but i can't get money from Erasmus, because i'm not from EU, i have belarussian citizenship so why i can't get this money, because Belarus doesn't take part in Erasmus. So i have to pay for everything myself.
If you meant another way of getting 500 per month, please let me know.
Thnx a lot for your answer!

You are required to show that you have 500 euros in your bank account for every month you study. Without that, you normally will not get a student residence permit. What EP meant I think is that you will most likely be able to survive with that amount of money and not have to get even more money.

Remember i did give a paper to the immigration office that certifies that their will be a bank transfer monthly of 500 euros ( or was it 600 € ) they didnt accept it , they wanted to see 600*10 months cash on my account .

Hei hei! I used to live near Sjoki when I worked and knew many students. The terms of the student visa are 500euro as another has said.. But not even my student friends had so much money a month to live off which makes that whole 500euro a tad over-inflated. Sjoki has some cheap places to rent and cheap student apartments. If you manage to network you could get into a student place. I was staying with my wife in a student place in Ilmajoki for 180eu a month rent. Food is cheap also if you look in the right places. Shop at lidl and do smart spending and you can even buy some cheap lidl beer with the extra! The pubs in s-joki are expensive but for a cheaper uni thrills night go to bar15 3.50pints=best you are going to get in s-joki. If you need anymore info don't be afraid to msg me

City? Hardly.

"Vaasa is the biggest town in the area with about 60.000 inhabitants 71 % Finnish-speaking, 25 % Swedish-speaking and 4 % with other languages as their mother tongue."

if you are not up for partying all the time, you will have a pretty quiet lifestyle here and most student say that they moved to Vaasa because
they heard that they can focus on their study [/quote]

sounds really nice, how far is the University from the city centre?
