Dear all,
I have been to the info. session for foreigners who want to be entrepreneurs in Finland by YritysHelsinki.
As before I was thinking of having an online shop in Finland, but I think the easiest way is to sell in huuto. net this kind of local auction website as a starter.
Do you know that can I register in the National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland (NBPR) as a huuto seller?? Will they accept this application?
Thanks!
Grace

I don't think they are too bothered how you do your business. The Patents Office just administers your registration. They don't even need to know whether you are selling on huuto.net or at flea markets or in a bricks-and-mortar store.
I'm not sure if huuto.net has special rules for companies though. I have a feeling that you need to tick a box somewhere that shows you are a business and not a private individual. Hmm, not sure.

Hi,
Registration at NBPR is an expensive and rather time consuming affaire. You should make sure that you need it.
Best regards

If your are an EU national and only want to work as a sole-trader (toiminimi) it is easy to register and I think you can even do it on-line. I can't remember how much it costs but it was somewhere in the region of 60 or 70 euro. Setting up an Oy requires atleast 2500e share capital.
But if you are not an EU national, it's a bit more complicated.
In order to obtain startti-raha you have to register for VAT and to register for VAT you have to have a business ID (which you get when you register at the NBPR).

I am not an EU citizen. Because I am thinking if I open a kiosk in Finland, can I still register as a toiminimi with my foreigner status?
I have sent an email to ask in the NBPR, hopefully a toiminimi will be ok for my situation.

I can't remember the rules and I have lent my book to someone but, if your residency papers are all in order then I think you can register your toiminimi. The reverse doesn't necessarily work: you can't register as a toiminimi in order to obtain residency.
