Family Training in Helsinki (May and August 2010)

Post by Duo » Tue Jan 05, 2010 12:14 pm

Duo's family training groups are aimed at expecting intercultural couples. The groups are free of charge. Participating in a family training group can help you and your partner to better understand how to create a strong intercultural family identity and how to support your child's multilinguality and identity. You will also meet other couples and have an opportunity to exchange opinions and experiences as well as get new insights and ideas for your everyday life. :lightbulb:

The next Duo family training groups are in in May and August 2010. For more information see: http://www.familiaclub.fi/duo_family_training.html

Note: Duo's family training complements the family training provided by maternity guidance centers (neuvola) but does not replace it.

Are there any plans to extend this to families with older children? I'm just curious.

I think that often it is families who immigrate with older kids (eg teenagers) who have a harder time coping with some of the social and cultural issues.

Penelope:

Family training groups are aimed at couples expecting a baby, but since January 2010 Duo has organised discussion groups for mothers of intercultural families. Mother & Baby peer groups are for mothers and babies under one year old and we are currently planning discussion groups for families with older children.

Duo is also looking for volunteer peer facilitators to run the different discussion groups and if anyone is interested is volunteering with Duo, please contact as at duo(at)familiaclub.fi
