Greetings!
I'm a non-EU/EEA citizen and I'm planning to do my higher studies in Finland once I'm done with high-school, which would be in mid-August. But there's this one thing about the application dates in UAS that confuses me. It says on admissions.fi that the next date that admissions open is Aug 30. But somehow, the actual websites of UAS say they have only 1 application period in the whole year, and that's around January-April.
So if someone could clear things up, I would be grateful, as I need this information to plan my future studies.
Next application date for UAS
Re: Next application date for UAS
The main application period in the UAS joint application system -for the Bachelor's level programmes- is in Jan-Feb each year. Additionally, there usually is another application round in the autumn for those programmes that start in January... but IIRC during the past few years when the www.admissions.fi application system has been in use, there have only been a few programmes available in the autumn application round.
So yes, there'll most likely be some programmes open for application later on this year, but generally speaking the UAS's tend to only use the Jan-Feb application period.
Keep an eye on the websites of those UAS's that you're interested though, in some cases there may be additional applications (if there have not been enough good/eligible candidates on the first, official round, for example) & they are announced on the UAS's own web sites. If that happens, you apply directly to the UAS (and not through www.admissions.fi)

Thanks. This info certainly helps. I have scheduled my IELTS in June just in case I might have to apply in August. But if, as patricknea says, entrance exams for the autumn application are only in Finland, then I don't think it's a realistic option for me. It's uneconomical to go to Finland just for the entrance exam, come back, then go again if accepted.
Can I not ask the Finnish embassy if they could arrange the exam for me at my home country, or a neighboring country, at the most?

Mind you, one could argue that it's quite unfair if some people do have a chance to do the exam in their home country and some don't - and it would also be quite uneconomical for the UAS's to arrange entrance exams in every nook and corner of the world... so what extra incentive would any particular UAS have to go through the trouble of arranging entrance exams in, say, your country?
They do, occasionally, but the above just to provide some insight on why, in many cases, they don't.
