I Need a Finnish - English translator this weekend

Post by anliminvestments » Thu Apr 15, 2010 1:53 pm

Hi,

I am exhibiting at an exhibition in Helsinki this weekend and I could use the help of a "translator" if possible. I do not need a professional translator or anything, just someone with a good grasp of the English and Finnish languages.

I am Irish, but I am working for a Croatian property company and we will be exhibiting this weekend (17th&18th April) in the Wnha Satama Exhibition Centre. I was told that I would need a translator for the Finnish show as I am likely to encounter more language problems than in Oslo and Stockholm.

Basically I will run through my brochure and show customers where the different developments are in relation to Croatia. If the customer does not understand me I would simply need someone to translate for them. Also if they had questions I would need them to translate for me.

I am willing to hire anyone providing they have the language skills and will be clean and presentable for the two days from 11am to 4pm. The job is open to everyone and I would really appreciate some feedback. You can contact me at thomas@anliminvestments.com

Pay is negotiable but I was thinking along the lines of €125 per day. Thank You

I was told by the exhibition organisers that while English is very prominent in Finland, it would be worthwhile getting a translator as some of the older generation will not be as good at English as the Swedes or Norwegians?? I have never been to Finland so I am only taking their word as they natuarally have more experience in these situations than myself.

That generation would be around 80. Do you think they are still interested in buying property?

Oh ok I was just going on the exhibition organisers advice. So do you reckon I would be fine by myself as this is how I have gone about in Sweden and Norway?

My guess is that you will be fine. People who don´t speak English (or German) would not even think about buying from Croatia. They would buy from Costa del Sol or Canaries where they manage with Finnish.
