Entrance Exam (Haaga-Helia) International Business
Entrance Exam (Haaga-Helia) International Business
Has anyone taken the exam recently? Any suggestions on how to prepare? I have been away from school for some time now. If someone could at least share a few of the topics covered on the exam, that would be very helpful.
Also, is anyone currently attending the programme?

Re: Entrance Exam (Haaga-Helia) International Business
oh hi there : ) i applied for the same thing, it's my first preference. i have been trying to gather information about the exam too for a very long time but didn't get really far with it...
all i have heard/read it has a math part(rather like an iq test and general math), an essay part, English test and a "group interview" where you have to explain your point about a topic...i went through my high school math book plus bought a Finnish math book and trying to get back to where i was before graduation - i am 22 now - but it seems hard for me even though i used to be pretty ok in math. there are parts i just couldn't do anymore(vectors or some detailed function analysis) so i am kinda scared, not knowing what to expect(at home these university exams are extremely tough). to be honest, it pisses me off cause i don't think it's fair towards us...but since we can't take a calculator to the exam it can't be that bad, can it?
i e-mailed the admissions office about the English test and they told me it could contain business English too. of course if you are a native-speaker it won't be any problem for you, i might have a few difficulties with it though : )
i would also appreciate a lot if someone could give us at least a few hints, cause i REALLY can't afford to fail this exam...

Vectors? Are you serious? If you can solve some basic equations and percentage-problems - you're in. Talking about IB @ HH here.

well then this is a HUGE relief for me, thanks...seems like the exams here are bit different than ones back home but rather take it too seriously than not caring at all : )

well, it would be too much to ask for an IB program... like vectors, function analysis and so on..
prepare well with the articles you need to read. they ask about them quite in detail. and discussion as well.

as far as i know there is no pre-reading material this time...at least i have read the article will be given during the test...but thanks anyway, i'm not stressed anymore, which is a big plus : )
Re: Entrance Exam (Haaga-Helia) International Business
There is actually pre-reading material. I just received my invitation to the Entrance Exam and it included a 10 page article on an international business topic. Definitely something that should be studied very carefully, as I am sure they will ask some detailed questions regarding the topic.
As far as studying for the Math part of the exam, I have been doing some practice tests from the Internet. My guess is the Math component might be similar to a GRE exam for graduate school in the U.S.
If anyone is taking the exam next month and lives in the Helsinki area, I would be interested in getting together to discuss the pre-reading material.

Dorian,
The program I have applied for at Haaga-Helia is the called "DP in International Business (Adult Evening Studies)" at the Pasila Campus. I believe this program is for adults over the age of 25, so maybe you applied for a different program.

So what did you all think about the exam after all? Any opinions? Would be nice to hear a few... : )
For me the written part went generally well though i could have used plus one hour cause i finished it just when they told to put pens down...no extra time for looking through the answers...but maybe it was just me...the reading was bit tough but i think i got the main point of it.
The interview i don't know about, i have NO idea what they wanted to hear...i was honest, that's the best i could do : )
