Hi,

Gross salary sounds pretty good from a general "working in Finland" point of view (6250euro/month), but I don't really know anyone in sales field, so cannot say whether this is high or low. You'll be taxed extra for company car. I presume this is also "salary" and not some freelance scheme where you'll have to be liable for your own tax and pension from that amount. I guess you'll at worst case take home half of that or slightly more. Someone else should be able to give more accurate breakdown though. Both Denmark and Finland are expensive places to live.

:D I hope the same - and nobody really offered just ~2k per month even to a just graduated person.

No, from TES: Design/development (or Network and telecommunications) - level 1 salary is 2024. It is not possible to pay less.

That's enough. It is not a joke, bold sentence is really target for a lot of experienced IT professionals, even not for students. Of course they might prefer other EU countries (like UK, Ireland, Germany, Denmark etc), but Finland is fine enough too.
It is hard to understand in case if you have an EU citizenship.
So it is really depends to the target. Do you want to move to EU country with possibility to receive EU citizenship later, do you want to collect a lot of money (even with 2k gross per month it is possible to add 800-1000 per month to your personal bank account - it depends to the life style), can you wait with job finding for a long time etc.

No you wont. Salary+car=taxable income
The tax value of the car can be found for example here. Look at "vapaa autoetu".

edit. just to be precise: taxable income = salary+(company)car+(company)phone+(company)housing+ etc. everything you get from company is considered as part of your salary.

Thanks mdn for your replies.

In summary, the selection has been made and further step is to negotiate I guess salary/paperwork with Manager and HR nxt week.
I bet they have an idea already about the range they would be able to pay, and if we do not agree, they will switch to other backup candidates.
You said that most Finnish students are easy use with Linux: why they did not choose one then? they might guru in Linux, but most of them not in SIP/GSM/3G, neither in Project management.

However, I opened this thread to have an idea about the salary I might ask/get, and through your replies I got some in mind.

According to your replies, my educational background, my previous experience and knowledge in the field, I would think I would request at least 3K.
If they go for it, that's fine, otherwise back home for 2k salary and 10times cheaper life expenses! I guess my plans for experimenting Finland would just drop down :)

Sounds about right based on your experience. Let us know what they say.

Sorry, just jumped into the thread and will poke my nose in...

Yes you will.
Paulrenn said You are taxed extra for company car... and you say you are taxed on the car (or car plus fuel etc) value as assigned by the tax office. That appears very similar to me... I am taxed extra on my company car plus fuel etc (according to the tax value you linked to).
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

I was only trying to point out that you have to pay something extra for having the car.
It isn't a "free" thing, but I suppose that is true for any European country in any case.
Your equation is correct.

Hi,
I know that this is quite an old post but was wondering what the salaries of an IT manager for medium size company would be? Position would be in Helsinki/Espoo

Main keyword there - 'Helsinki'.
Linux is well known for a lot Finnish IT students - and Helsinki's students work on Linux since 1991.
"Master's degree in IT, 1.5 years of experience in the field" - as I see most Finnish IT students with Master Degree have at least 2-3 years experience in the field.
I couldn't help replying this, but it's a bit far fetched to say that just because Linus Torvalds started the project in Finland there are plenty of bright linux minds in the country as well.

We are talking about a project that has grown thanks to the widespread of the internet. Most Linux hardcore specialists have grown so by doing work at home, wherever they happen to live, and submitting their kernel contributions via email. The Linux development is distributed enough to say that being a Finn and living in Finland doesn't guarantee at all that you are better than anyone else in knowing and understanding Linux.
