Hello all,

I got Talk Now! a Finnish learning CD-Rom made by EuroTalk for my birthday a couple of years ago. I've been using it on and off for since then. For my birthday this year (last Sunday) my mother got me EuroTalk's Talk The Talk CD-Rom. It's a Finnish learning disc that teaches slang rather than the somewhat archaic language sometimes used in language learning CDs. So far I am enjoying this CD. It's actually pretty neat, it takes records you speaking Finnish and plays it back for you to compare to the native speakers. What's cool is when it plays your recording back it has the native speaker mouth the word. Sometimes it lines up perfectly and looks like they are speaking your voice, which is very funny when the man is the one mouthing it.

Any way, I just wanted to recommend it to others. I always have difficulty finding language programs in Finnish, so I was excited to find it. EuroTalk also has a Saami language program!

Has anyone else used EuroTalk products? If so, how do you like it?

I agree, I've been using it for a while and it's effective. It would be good if there were more to it, eg if the advanced disc had explanations of answers rather than True/False only, but with the lack of a Rosetta Stone Finnish, this software is really fun and useful.

Me asking Rosetta Stone employee at a stand: "You think they'll ever make a Finnish Rosetta Stone?"
Rosetta Stone employee: "Unless the U.S. army feels the need to invade Finland, then no."

Also, the EuroTalk CD's are amazing! I was very impressed and still am using it today for practice!

You learn pretty quickly in the first beginner section some random phrases, one of which being "Missä matkalaukut ovat?"
I didn't think I'd EVER use it, but I used it the next day when helping my girlfriend's dad carry his luggage outside as he departed for a Nokia meeting in Brazil!!

Berlitz Finnish in 60 minutes audio CD has some pearlers, including "Is service included?" for the Ravintola section. They must have come up with the whole script in the US and then just made the translators and voice actors do it in Finnish without listening to anyone who'd actually been to the country, I guess that's the advantage of all the culture specific stuff in the Teach Yourself courses. In its favour though, the Berlitz one is awesome for drilling on basic phrases and you can't complain for AUD$10.
