Standard hospital stay for a second birth?

Im just wondering if the standard stay in hospital is reduced for a second birth?

Im expecting our second baby in November, back to Jorvi again which we were happy with first time around. Providing it all goes to plan Id love to be in and out as quick as possible.

I understand the different hospitals have varying policies, so I think you'd better ask directly (only some hospitals have "poliklininen synnytys" (back home in 6-24 hours)) - but generally speaking, yes on a second time they expect you to be more ready to manage on your own. Another point is then that if everything goes well and the baby is healthy I do not think they have much legal grounds keep you there against your will.

Thanks, I must try to remember and ask at neuvola next time we have an appointment.

We had a family room first round and were expected to get on with things anyway. I remember a nurse coming our first afternoon wanting to know why we hadnt asked for help to change his nappies. She had to fish them out of the bin to check the contents!

Hi,

with my first born (Oulu hospital) I was in a family room and we stayed for 5 days, with the second (at Oulu again) I was in a room with another lady and the stay was still 5 days. This was because of his billirupin (or however you spell it - the jaundice levels) levels and we should have been able to leave after about 3 days if they had been fine.
