How does taking temporary work affect benefits?
I was talking with someone this morning about the possibility of them taking a temporary (6-12 week) contract in the UK. They are on integration allowance so they would obviously have to inform the employment office that they are going to the UK to do this temporary work and their benefits would be stopped during that time. Is it a simple matter of going back on benefits when they get back (provided they haven't found a permanent job by then) or will they have serve some kind of waiting period? When they first came to Finland about 6 months ago they had to wait 3 months after leaving their last contract job before they were eligible for any assistance from the employment office here. Does anyone here know if it will be the same situation again if they took this 6-12 week contract? (that they will have to wait another 3 months to get back in the system).

I'd say go for it. That is long enough temp that it is worth the hassle that it causes.

Hi,
when you get a temporary job and you get unemployement benefits ,you just have to fill the kela form marking the days you have been employed and join copies of the document that attest the perceived salary. Then kela will take 0.50€ for every 1€ you made, from the unemployement benefits. So if you make more than the unemployment money you get 0 from kela.
If you don't get any benefits you have to send anyway a copy of the contract of temporary job or job certificate.
Non of this means that you are employed so you will remain in the system as unemployed
