Young family in Kerava,
Young family in Kerava,
Hello all,
Will be moving from the Uk to Kerava this summer,
we have two young girls, 1 is 5 and the other is a year old.
The older one will not start preschool until she is 6,
Just wonder what play groups or day schools there are in the town for children of this age.
Would like the older girl to go to as many groups as possible (1, to learn Finnish, 2 to stop my wife going mad with 2 young girls at home all day!)
Also do these groups cost ?
One more question if I may, does Kerava have many foreigners living there, any international childrens clubs?
Any links to sites or groups that may help us will be gratefully received.
thanks in advance. Davin

Re: Young family in Kerava,
Hi!
Welcome to Kerava! The Garlic City of Finland, home of Koff beer and a nice "Little Big City".
You can get information about open day-care via the municipal information pages. If you don't read Finnish, you can get a hum of the contents by running the pages through Google Translate. http://www.kerava.fi/paivahoito_avoinph.asp
- Pre-schools: http://www.kerava.fi/paivahoito_esiopetus.asp
There are many foreigners living in Kerava, but don't know about any international groups.
Hope you'll like it here. When will you be moving?

Re: Young family in Kerava,
Hi Keravalainen,
Thanks for your fast reponse,
And thanks for the links.
Will be coming as soon as school finishes here.
While I am here, (seeing as you are a Kerava expert!) would you know anything about industrial space for small businesses in Kerava, (basically a small workshop)
All I can find online is massive aicraft hangers, near the airport!.
I know that there are lots of industrial areas in the town, but what I am really looking for is craft workshops, ie furniture maker/ rerstorers, artists, etc.
Or further away from Kerava, anywhere else in Uusimaa where they might be.
Where to look,
Thanks again

Workspace search:
http://asunnot.oikotie.fi/toimitilat
we're in Kerava on most Sundays seeing Mummi. It seems to have everything that you'd need....

Hi Mook,
Thanks for your response,
Regarding industrial space.
I have used that search engine. and as i said it only shows big industrial units, leased from companies who want 4 year leases, 3 months rent upfront, etc etc.
I need somewhere like I have had in the Uk. Ie a ramshackle building, with rain (or snow in the case of Kerava!), coming through the roof, no long contracts, maybe on a farm, other like minded people around and only 2 hundred euros a month!
Not much to ask is it.
No seriously I need a secure warm dry unit, but can`t afford the prices the agencies are asking.
Any other woody type people out there looking to share premises ?
PS doesnt need to be in Kerava.
Davin
Sorry this seems to have turned into a property search.
The main concern we have is that my wife will get lonely with the young kids at home, we just need some reassurance that there is lots going on for mums and young children.

Re: Young family in Kerava,
Hi!
I think there are several alternatives available in Kerava.
- Search with e.g. toimitilaa +vuokrataan +kerava
Here's one I found: http://asunnot.oikotie.fi/vuokrattavat- ... at/5571277
You might also contact the municipal office for starting businesses: http://www.kerava.fi/elinkeinoasiat.asp

Re: Young family in Kerava,
There is a bilingual Finnish-English day care centre in Kerava called Päiväkoti Kiddy House. It is operated by the Mannerheiman Lastensuojeluliito (MLL). You can visit the website at mll-kerava.fi and follow the links to Kiddy House. There you will find English and Finnish text. Pre-school instruction is also offered.
Re: Young family in Kerava,
Thanks lusi, that looks interesting. Thanks for the link

I am a small business owner here in Denmark and will also be looking for some workshop space... I am a carpenter.
Thanx
