How do finnish people type those two letters? Do they have a different keyboard than English-speaking people?

It's a bad habit to delete parts from your posts.

Most other keyboards, Spanish, French, German have the diacritics that gives the same result with a bit of faffing... in the case of the arsey-versey French keyboard, a lot of faffing... but basically if you're using windows you can switch between layouts or even program a key, I mean if you're not a coder where do you ever use the [] -keys?

In windows you can set up Finnish as one of your keyboard languages - it's then easy to switch back & forth between English & Finnish. On the english keyboard with finnish language, @ is ä and ; is ö....

Have a look under:
Control Panel
Time, Date, Language, Regional Options

You can change key settings too - so that you can easily switch without opening up applications or the language bar. I installed the language bar but found it very slow as I normally only use the odd finnish word in the middle of an english sentence, so I set up key settings instead as it's much quicker. (I use Alt + Shift; but you can set it up for anything you want...)

OK! But I have Linux (ubuntu) on my netbook. What about capital Ä and Ö? (As you can see, I'm presently using a desktop with Windows and a number pad on the keyboard). :?

Or....if you don't want to have to keep adjusting to different keyboards, or keep forgetting which keyboard you are currently using....do what I do....preload a bunch of ä's and ö's ahead of the curser, then let them fall into place as needed. Another way at least on a pc is to use the number pad with the num lock on and type in the correct numeric code....I assume by "English" keyboard, you mean "North American"..if not then you can do your own research....

Alt-0228 ...ä
Alt-0246....ö

...and occasionally you may need a capital:

Alt-0196.....Ä
Alt-0214.....Ö

The only other "normal" character you might use is this one: ....Alt-0128....€...and maybe this.....Alt-0163...£....

The only drawback to this is all the keystrokes you have to make for a single character...You can also find all the Cyrillic characters this way as well, though except for the occasional short word, this would be a rather painful way to type a sentence in Russian....

But typically this all gets to be a bother....often easiest just to copy and paste....:D
