Finland vs Canada

Post by sonic » Tue Jul 06, 2010 12:05 pm

I am a foreigner and recently was accepted to Aalto university graduate school (Computer science department) and also to one of the top 100 world university in Canada (actually, it closes the top 100 list). I know that now government sponsors Aalto university a lot, and there are hopes that its study and research programs quality will grow sufficiently and make it one the top world university. I am curious in what degree are justified such hopes from the Finland citizens perspective? For me Finland is closer and I will have not an obligation to be a teaching assistance as in Canadian university, but the drawback is that I do not know Finnish and it seems to be hard for me. Also I am not sure that I will find an interesting IT job in Helsinki without a language even with my 5 years experience in well-known enterprises. What can you advise? Please be objective. Thanks.

Cory, thanks for the argumentative answer. I am just curios what was the main reason for you to emigrate to Finland, what do you like there? And what teaching experience do you have? I understand that ability to lesson comes only with experience but maybe you can advise some books to build my teaching skills?
