Lousy Ham - Lidl

Post by jtammilehto » Fri Jul 16, 2010 4:19 pm

Tried some hunaja kinkku -- from Lidl. Brand something like Gerbergsjäger.

Forget it - processed and filled with stuff that you'll be picking out of your teeth all day.

Finnish products good at the same trick. Why does 'processed' always have to mean somehow 'poisoned?'

Actually did look at the 'keittety kinkku' at Lidl when I bought this stuff - there was so much 'not nice's' showing I decided to try my luck on the honey package where you couldn't see inside. I lost. But would not have liked the other any better - and even was more expensive.

Naah, they have something "valmiste" thats with a golden backing, thats crud, the ham with a green backing in a more "loose" packing is the proper stuff... if it says anything like "valmiste" its processed, or say if it read "juoma" its generally not juomakelpoinen

OK - will look again

But the stuff that had all kinds of crap in it that I don't like, was regular unprocessed ham - the fat and junk were in their natural positions - and there was nothing 'valmiste' about it. They may have a couple of brands on this. Will check it out.

Well, thats how ham's supposed to be :lol: Though some "ylikypsä saunapalvattu" off a butcher's is something you can't surpass with packed stuffs.

Well - some pure fat ok - but don't want the other stuff.

Anyhow I checked - the Dulano Perinteinen batch they had now looked OK - there was some other stuff that had 'kokoliha' on the label - there was some yellow there someplace - anyhow that looked bad and also as if it was processed.

They did have a Korppukinkku - Kartano brand that didn't look too bad.

++

Should say on 'plus' side that they have some Italian (Venetian)- and French- style salamis in a Dulano 100-150g pack that have tried and are IMO fine. At 16€ a kilo it makes eg K-CityMarket IsoOmena look like total crooks asking something like 45€/kg for similar.

The salamis are quite on te mark, as is the bratwurst. Sausages are 50/60 - the bacon-wrapped-cheese-weiners are bang for the buck in the grill. but the "cuts" are a bit questionable - though the linessa air-dried ham is inhaleable (hate their packing strips tho)

They are not bashful about the price on that - some 17€ - might be more likely to try the 20€ 'Black Forest- - but think I could probably do better at Heino Tukku.

Saw they had Dulano Smoked Bacon in a 100 g pkg - but no price. 'Looked' OK but wonder how unknown price might relate to the Malux bacon which is 99c for 140g and quite OK

(their Kassa lines too long to allow for a price-check)
