To anyone who might be in the know...
Years and years ago I came across a cd of a Chinese musician Li Xiangting at my local library (the now deleted and very hard to find / expensive album was called "L'Art du Qin", it came out on the French Ocora label - the above is the reissue cover, but even that costs +40$ used on Amazon). Now, I've managed to find one cd of his qin music at Digelius (Sleeping Lotus) - but, while it's a fine disc as such, it veers a bit towards "new-agey" improvisational stuff and I'd like to find some records - not necessarily by the same artist - that would be more in the "classical Chinese qin music" category.
I'd be grateful for any hints, recommendations and advice...! I'm not sure where to start looking, what would be the artists / records to search etc... (not being able to speak or write a word of Chinese is another handicap)

Pelhaps!

But honestly - it's not easy to remain uninterested... while I certainly would not claim to have the slightest idea whatsoever about the history, theory or 'masters' of Chinese music, it's a joy to hear someone playing an instrument so well, even if it's not a 'familiar' instrument. It seems to be called
guqin actually... a bit like the Japanese koto
Stuff like that (and
this) is what I'm essentially looking for... cd's mind you, downloads only if all else fails & if they are legal.
There seems to be a
5-part document on Youtube on Li Xiangting... with even some kung-fu thrown in

If you search 'GuQin music' in amazon, you will find some CDs or MP3 album downloading.
Can I suggest 'GuZheng music' as well. It's a different instrument, but you might like it if you like GuQin music.

Thanks for the Guzheng tip

Anyway I'm quite aware of the Amazon search function

- I was rather thinking about recommendations (particular albums and/or artists)... one can always 'buy randomly' or rely on a hunch, of course...

This is could be a good one because there are at least two famouse artists inside.
Artistwise, Guan Ping-hu is a famous one.
Furthermoe, you can check this link to see which of the Guqin CD has the good review in this link.

The website is in Chinese, but you can get idea of which CD is good one to start with. However, it might be difficult to find them in amazon.

From the link above, you can buy CDs from Chinese online store. They do oversea delivery. The first two on the list are the part 1 and part 2 of one collection. Hopefully you can understood them by google translate.
