Bad news for international students(tuition fees fr masters)

Post by rachidwestlife » Sat Jul 31, 2010 3:56 pm

In selected English-language Master's degree programmes it will be possible for the Finnish higher education institutions to collect tuition fees starting autumn 2010, 2011 or 2012.

Tuition fees may be charged from non-EU/EEA nationals enrolled in these programmes. Those higher education institutions that choose to collect tuition fees in their English-language Master’s programmes will also provide scholarship options for non-EU/EEA students enrolled in tuition-fee carrying Master’s programmes.

Please find a list of the selected Master’s programmes, and more information

indeed.

Presumably all non-eu students will now just have to go through the hassle of claiming the costs back from their respective countries? (I s'pose that the Finnish government pays up when Finns study abroad..?)

@cory...
You and the rest of the people who whine about non-Eu students make my day. What will you do about it? We dont get any grants from the government, our parents pay for our living costs which amount to almost 800 euros or more in a month, we have to have 6000euros in our accounts every year for visa extension and an insurance that costs almost 500 euros. If you calculate that its even cheaper to study in our countries. It never occurs to you and other whiners that we are here because we wanted to experience something different and not that we are needy.Your attitude is what makes us go back after our education because we cant just drop out in the middle of a degree programmes. We persevere your attitudes coz we are not quitters and we have goals which need education to be achieved.and by the way most foreigners have part-time jobs and we pay taxes too.and you and the others like you never seem to notice that there are foreigners in the finnish employment departments who pay taxes.

Before you write anything do a small research.Your mind is closed and your attitude will give you depression in the long run.We are here,we study,we do partime jobs and full summer jobs and when we get our degrees and get jobs here we will stay coz we are here by choice. If we dont we have beautiful, social, tropical homes to go back to and you will still be whining....

Cory I know you have a right to comment but some comments leave questions about you and your thinking capacity.I came here because Finland has the best education in Europe and statistics show that. This is a longterm investment and if I can get the best with minumum costs then why not take the chance.

Well, it's good that you've confirmed that foreign students have plenty of cash and don't need free education!

Imagine if you come from the US, and have to find 50k to pay for your education.. then you move here and find that as well as paying off your loan that you're now paying for someone elses education too.

So you'd rather see a classroom with 5 students than accomodate a foreigner.....gosh, this is an infinitive argument.....I am grateful for the finnish government and the offer they have given me coz this is a lifetime opportunity and for all complainers I will just say life isn't always fair. You should be proud of your country's ability to do what they do but instead you find a way to be sad about it.I know understand the country's depression problem.....Its brought by pessimistic attitude.

Mook if you had thought like mumbi in the 1st place you wouldnt be paying off a huge loan. Its all about planning before acting.I am a finnish and my boyfriend is from pakistan and it is not as easy as you think for them. He dont get student loans and money and he has to work as he studies. He pay taxes and if you are from US dont post negative things about our country and if you are finnish you should have gone schooling here.

I'd rather question the need for so many classrooms and teachers than start to fill classes...

Now I never said that I was paying off a loan. I said "imagine if"...

(incidentally, I do have a mortgage - just wondering if it'll stretch to cover another room here in Krunika)

Now if you notice that little flag down a few lines, it gives a hint about where I'm from.

I'm guessing that you've been on this forum more than 1 post (and you probably have a couple of posts on this thread). The thing is that every second day, there's some whiny non-EU student complaining about not getting anything from the Finnish government. This does tend to reduce the sympathy level. So what should you do, accept the charity of free eduction and be nice and humble or ...?

If you were more keen on Finnish demographics you wouldn't ask that question.
