Hi, I am a foreign mother with a son of a year old living in Oulu. I moved here just before I had my son and had no friends/connections, it took a while but I joined 2 mother groups and its helped. I am not sure of your situation. My suggestion is that there is an international womans group here in Oulu, they meet up every Tuesday (If I remember correctly...long summer!!) and you could start by joining that and meeting people through that! They are a wonderful group of ladies. I am starting a job so wont be going come the end of summer...but its a start!

There is also a day kindergarden, I am really not sure what else to call it that I joined. Its called the 'green house' in finnish and in on uusikatu. They have a group for new moms every wed from 12 - 3...well it may change this coming season, but check that out too. I personally know no finnish but I went along knocked on the door and asked about joining one of their groups. the mothers were awesome and mademe feel welcome, they spoke english to me and yea...just another group of ladies who may be a good start to making moves towards....(VihreaTalon I think...you can find info on the web I think!)
Anyways...best of luck and sendme a private message if you want somemore help...it was very hard for me at the start of my sons 'life' but ive settled in ammaking friends,both finnish and foreign and its good to connect with other womenand mothers! It honestly helps when things are awful and you feel so alone!
