Post by prashant2427 » Sun Sep 19, 2010 10:59 pm

Hi All,

I just wanted to know if there is any provision of doing evening college or Part time studies in Finland along with working.

I have Bachelors degree currently and want to pursue my Masters in Business Administration or anything related to that.

Thanking you in advance

They have evening classes in the Polytechnichs for "upgraders", but I'd say most are in Finnish. I think the polytechnic masters' degrees are geared towards people in working life, so I'd look into their programme scheduling.

Yes the polytechnic Master's programmes are for those in the working life... but AFAIK you need to have at least 3 years of relevent work experience after your Bachelor's to be eligible (so it rather depends on when the OP has done his/her Bachelor's...) - go to this database and search for polytechnic Master's programmes... the ones in this database should all be in English.

Well you need to do your own legwork on that, arcada, haaga-helia, laurea, metropolia all offer masters degrees with something related to business, from the 13-in-half-dozen international business to real estate management and service innovation and design...

...and remember that "open university" or "open studies at polytechnics do not as such lead to any degree...

That is true, but you can you can include the open university credits that you have earned in your university degree later on. When applying to the university, you can receive extra points for open university studies in some subjects.

Yep, true. But... do you know - is it the same with open studies at polytechnics (UAS) if one is applying for their Master's programmes? Had a quick look at their FAQ pages and while they say it can be done, they seem to refer to the regular Bachelor's level programmes only.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure if this is the case with the "academic" universities either. Am I wrong or is the "open university" thingy only relevant for the Bachelor's level entry? Haven't come across this question before meself :)

I have only personal experience on this from the Finnish university front. I got over 18 credits (during the old credit system loonngg time ago) from open university accepted in the end of 1990's to my Master's.

I would imagine, that best thing to do is to check the requirements directly from the educational institute you later want to get in. These requirements might vary between different institutes.
