Family Benefits?

Post by khan200us » Tue Sep 28, 2010 12:59 am

I am here in Finland in a beautiful city of OULU on a student resident permit. My wife is expecting a baby in a month's time. We are advised that the baby will not obtain Finnish Citizenship by his birth here because both his parents are non EU nationals.(Pakistan passport holders)

How long do we have to live on Type B permit in order to qualify for a permanent residence visa and subsequently to gain Finnish passport? Does EU Directive 2003/109/EC help us on student visa after 5 years of residence in Finland? We have both registered ourselves at local Maistratti office as being resident of the municipality of OULU.

A proper legal advice is required please.

Secondly, we have been to local KELA office for social security coverage and they have given us a form to fill in and submit but we do not know which benefits we qualify for? Please provide a list. Do we qualify for child benefit? Maternity payments? Stay home benefits for my wife?

As a student in Finland, if my wife does not work, do I get subsidised rate for my flat or does government pay any contribution towards my monthly rent for accommodation?

Please help.

Kind Regards
