applying for a job

Post by vincebel » Tue Sep 28, 2010 10:59 am

Hi all. I have some few questions about a job id like to apply for.
So I fit extremely well the job requirements which are quite specific (air quality and air pollution topics), concerning the degree. Moreover i have been 6 months in a practice place and did a report that has been published concerning this exact topic and they also ask for experience.
I wrote this report in english tough.

In the job requirement nothing is mentionned about finish language even if im sure its required. But still its not mentioned compared to other jobs i applied.

My question is. Should i write my application letter in english or in finish with few mistakes (I speak pretty good but not fluently).

I anyway have my CV in finish and english.

Thanks

In the language of the advert is a good thumb rule. And if you write the letter - have someone proof it so its not totally silly even if it is a bit clunky. You will be expected to speak Finnish at least to the same extent in the interview.

The ad was in finnish. I understood everything in the ad but im not sure i can produce a nice application letter in finish tough. Do u have a link with examples or typical sentences to write when applying for a job?

Or dou u think its a good idea to send everything in two languages (CV and application letter)?

In Finland you are expected to apply within the same language as the job advertisement has been published. If the ad is in Finnish, the general expection is that applicants can speak Finnish. It does not do any harm either to apply in English if you don't have Finnish skills. Good application in English is far better than a Finnish one if you don't actually knoe the language.
