Question on job putting ads in mailboxes

Hello!
I am a student in JKL and since I don't have enough time for a proper job, a few days ago I was thinking that maybe I should tryto get a job putting ads (like from K Market for example) in mailboxes, because there would be no certain working hours (I think?) and I might be able to even walk my dog at the same time, as I can't leave him alone at home for so long.
Has anyone else here done this? Would I have a chance to get a job like this if I don't speak too much Finnish (well I don't really have to talk anyway) even for just a few hours a week? I was thinking that, since the winter is coming, there wouldn't be too many people who would want to do this in the cold, or am I wrong?

Depends, you get crap pay though, and the most of the time is going folding all the crap into between the paper. Only Finnish you need to learn is "ei mainoksia"

I've seen foreign students delivering ads and newspapers near where I live. The job itself isn't that bad, but the pay really IS crap.

Isn't HJEX in Helsinki? In Jyväskylä, there's at least Jyväskylän Jakelut (delivering the ads twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays) and Letterbox (once a week, Thursdays or Fridays).

I did that for a while, like the others have said, pay is rubbish. They dump a crap load of ads and newspapers on your doorstep and then you have to fold them all together, and then deliver them. Some of it depends on your area, what the housing is like as to whether it's a bad job or not, and on the weather. Pulling that trolley through thick snow on a saturday morning cos the guy clearing the snow hasn't got out of bed yet, isn't much fun. Oh and despite the fact your delivering free ads and that, if you don't put it through the door perfect, you will get complaints! Easy enough to get the job with no Finnish skills though.

I'll definitely try those two links, could anyone tell me what "omakuvaus" means though? Couldn't find it in a dictionary or translator. And also, on those applications it would be better to write in English right?

And about how much means "crap pay"? I don't really mind about the weather and snow though, as I have to take my dog out 2-3 hours every day anyway, so even if it is crap it would be still a lot better if I got some money than none during that time, as I don't have the time for a proper job.

I've done this work in Jyväskylä for just over 2 months in 2008 and as others said, the pay is crap. I worked out I was getting about 4€/hr for some pretty physical work. Not enough to justify the time I was putting into the job.

Jakeluporras is the company I worked for if you're interested in another potential employer. I think they still have their office in Kauppakatu above Old Brick's. It's best to go there and ask.

Ok so I got a call from Jyvaskylan Jakelut and they offered me an area close to where I live, and I accepted. Of course I asked before signing how much I will get, and she said 80-100/month, depending on how many I will have to deliver.

Do I get 5,20e for the first bundle and then just 50cents for each of the other 4? Which would mean 7,20e? Because, in that case, it wouldreally sucl. I just sorted them, which took me like 3 hours, and then tomorrow I have to deliver them (note the snow and the fact that they weight almost as much as me) and I didn't even get a cart yet. And that would suck because it would mean I'd make just a bit over 1e/hour? I don't mind about sorting, as I am home then and I can listen to music or so, but for a girl to carry 1300 ads in the snow without a cart (and 800 of them being big newspapers with lots of pages) it's.. how can I put it nicely?.. !"#¤%. To say the least.

^Well I knew it is crap, but I figured I can do it for a while and then I might have a bit bigger chance to get another job if I already worked somewhere in Finland, even if it's just that. But still, there's a huge difference between earning 4e/hour in 2008, like someone said above, and getting 1e. And also between what I was told (80-100) and the actual money, which would be like 7.20x8 = just a bit over 50e...

There is no universal minimum wage in Finland. The collective agreement in most employment branches determines the pay and other minimum employment terms.

Not for a specific time, when I want to quit I just have to let them know, but to be prepared to still do it for the next 4 weeks, in case they don't find someone else. But if they find someone else, then that person can do it directly instead of me.
