Looking for a job in Kokkola

Post by Yann » Thu Oct 14, 2010 5:42 pm

Hi everybody!
My name is Yann and I'm 21 and I'm french. I lately moved to Kokkola and I'm now looking for a job in this area. I passed my B-Tech in International Trade studies when I was still in France and would like to work in any company around Kokkola which has an import-export activity. I contacted lot of company already and still have a lot to do, but no answers yet.
I joined this forum after being on the same board but in French, and hope to get more information here.
So, if anyone knows a company which needs someone who can talk French, English and a bit German, please contact me.

And by the way, I would like to know if there is some members of this board who live in Kokkola? It could be nice to meet some! :)

Yann

Kokkola is a small town, and it is genuinely bi-lingual (Finnish-Swedish). Not knowing BOTH of those is a real obstacle. I have a friend who grew up in Kokkola. She is Finnish-speaking but her Swedish is really good. She told me that she needed that to get a summer job as a teenager.

So there are jobs there. Reminds me of that movie with that ugly guy asking a lady if there is a chance she wants to sleep with him. Lady answers; the chance is less than 1 in a million. The guy perfectly happy answering: so there is a chance!

If you say that Finns are difficult about their language, you should try to get a job in France without speaking the language. If they do a study about arrogance in certain countries.....

I know that speaking Finnish (and also Swedish in Kokkola) is a very important thing for getting a job and that's why I'm learning it. But I also know that Finnish people have a good English knowledge, even it might be enough for working in a finnish company... but I don't give up and stay positive and active!

Volunteer something. Join the red cross, and/or the "save the seals" persons etc. I'm serious, this might give you a small chance to network, to practice the lingo etc.

Maybe you should get a hygieniapassi it's not so expensive and you might get lucky to go for an exam soon.
Same for työturvallisuuskortti.
