Afternoon all,
I have recently arrived in Helsinki with my Finnish wife and child. I have a BA in History and Archaeology, an MA in Archaeology (start laughing now), a TEFL cert, a diploma in project management and am currently studying by distance for a diploma in wines and spirits. I start Finnish classes tomorrow as I have none though I can understand some. The majority of my professional experience has been in the realm of commercial Arcaheology in my native Ireland and most recently in France. Especially in Ireland, Archaeology is a commercial enterprise not an academic pursuit.
A friend of mine was nice enough to give me a one off edting job last week, which was good but that kind of work will only be every once and a while, if even that. I have no experience of teaching English though I have the cert but have plenty of editing and report writing experience.
Someone has suggested that I should contact the Language Services Centre in the university to enquire about work. Does anyone here have any experience of dealing with and or working with them?
I have absolutely no illusions about how hard it will be to find work here and have not arrived wearing rose tinted spectacles.
Thanks

Re: New here
I think you should approach the university with a proposal to do archaeological research on the Sami (Lapp) people of Finland. If you have suitable credentials, you have a pretty good shot at getting a research grant.

Socialism has never managed to create anything beyond corpses, poverty and oppression.

Fair enough. It is funny. I don't remember saying I edited my own writing though.
