SAFA Code of Ethics & Conduct for Architects

Post by CherryMcA » Mon Nov 01, 2010 9:02 pm

I'm currently working on an essay for University about comparing the codes of conducts between architecture in UK & architecture in Finland. I've contacted SAFA to ask if they had their code of ethics & conduct available in English but it's only in Finnish & Swedish. Does anybody have it already translated in English or could translate it for me? I have no idea how big a document it may be.

Thanks

Cherry

..no chance. You''ll need to scan it, OCR it and use Google Translate.

But it's really easy.

In UK, architects are taught from the word go that it's a battlefield out there and that if you're not careful - you'll get sued. Arbitration is a nice idea, but no-one really thinks of this as the most likely conclusion to a dispute - no, it's the courts - so that's why every email, every conversation, every piece of contract documentation needs to consider how it's going to sound in court. No joking about, no allegory, no metaphor - just tell it straight in case your email gets read out in court.

In Finland, we're nice out here. We believe that it all works better if everyone just gets along. The project team works on trust, and the words 'sue' or 'court' don't factor. We get paid by the hour, to do a great job. We don't get amazingly paid, but it's not bad - oh, and all email is private - even work email. Only the subject line and the recipient name go to court - if ever.

How does the front end Terms of Engagement work? To my understanding, casually. In a small country of 5million, there seems to be no room to be belligerent.

Frankly, it's bliss.
