Masters degree ,i'm stuck....your advice pleaseee!!

Post by Cococox » Mon Nov 15, 2010 1:29 am

Hello guys,
i got a bachelors in Int.Business ,i've tried to get into masters schools (polytechnics) with no success, all have been asking me to have 3 years of relevant work experience(which i sadly don't have), its not that i haven't looked for work.I have done that part very seriously, with no success,as you all know, with the situation in Finland, the famous "language barrier" plus ofcourse the global economic problems...etc etc
anyway, i did not want to waste much time, and i was afraid that i was forgetting things, so i decided to go for part time studies in the same field, they were non degree studies(kind of a Postgraduate Diploma).I got myself a certificate with 30credits from a polytechnic.
I am now trying to my best to get a study place in a Masters programme next year autumn, the problem is i do not want to try those Aalto or the old Hanken ,HSE ones as they got pretty complicated admission system, i just don't see myself doing those GMAT stuffs and at the same time, i do not want to study outside Helsinki due to family reasons.
Could you kindly give me your advise on Masters studies in Helsinki,Espoo, Vantaa??, where do you think i could get easily, i mean their requirements are not that tight and then again do you think that OPEN UNIVERSITY could be a good option for me??I could try and collect some credits from the open university and later hopefully get admitted somewhere and transfer with the credits.
My teachers also gave me hope when they told me my 30credits will not go with the wind, i might be able to transfer ALL of them, especially if i get admitted into a polytechnic and ofcourse in the same field of study, any experiences, ideas??
This thing is confusing, i am just stuck, and i need to progress...Sometimes i dream that i've graduate with a PhD already LOL, when a Masters degree is still not REACHABLE....please advise.

Ok, quick answer - a few points you need to consider:

ALL polytechnic/UAS Master's degrees have that three-year work experience requirement. Those programmes are *targeted* for those who already have experience of the working life.

Open university could be an option, but if you're still planning to apply to a polytechnic/UAS in the future... IIRC open university studies do not remove the 3-year work experience requirement, so even if in principle you could later have your open university studies included in your degree, this would not solve the "problem" of getting admitted - there'd still be the work experience requirement.

So if you do not have the work experience, it seems the university Master's degrees are your "only choice". Now, you think the University Master's are too hard or complicated to get into... and you don't want to go through the trouble... think of it this way: why should the universities lower their entry requirements and make their Master's more "reachable" for you...? They're looking for motivated students, not someone who is only looking for easy admission.

No offense meant, IMO you just need to consider whether the fact that you do not want to go through something complicated is one of the decisive factors why you're "stuck".
