Where can I go see and ride horses/ponies?

Post by Suvetar » Mon Dec 13, 2010 6:29 pm

Hi!

My daughter is a huge horse fan eventho she is only almost 2. Her dad and I wanted to take her to see and ride horses/ponies (with supervision of course) but we don't know where to go, who to turn to. My husband (he's the finn in our family) told me that if we wanted to go see horses it was impossible to do it only one time, that you have to pay a year subcription to stables to be able to access horses. I find that a bit ridiculous if it's true, as in where I come from you can access and go see horses anytime, anywhere.

I really REALLY would want to take her to see them, her birthday is soon coming up and I tought it'd be a nice surprise she'd enjoy for sure.

We live in Helsinki.

Thanx for your help.

Hello

This place is great, we have been going there for years http://www.tuomarinkylanratsastuskoulu.fi/ the whole area is full of Horses and kids can ride them on Sunday mornings for a small fee and for younger children they have 2 small ponies, but you will have to check out if they do this during the winter.

My girl is born @ the end of march, so it will be spring already :) I found one link that has lots of ponies, some are really small and I think I will contact the person to know if it's possible to ride at 2 years old. Hopefully! But thanx for that link, I'll go check it out too, if you say she can ride at 2 it would be great!!! Most of the stables don't let children under 3 ride :/

If you don't mind driving a bit, this place in Nummela has really many super cute Shetland ponies and I think also toddler-aged riders are welcome
http://www.millitalli.fi/ See "talutuslenkki" on their price list.

Having been involved with small kids' riding lessons, I'd say a 2-yr-old could enjoy petting ponies and riding for some 15 mins at a time, from age 4 or so on kids can already start riding in small kids' groups that many riding schools have (When they already need to be able to concentrate a bit and follow instructions. There's always someone walking next to the pony in order to keep things safe). The age limit for actual riding lessons is usually 7.
