I've never figured out whether the Scott Adams who writes Dilbert is the same as the Scott Adams who runs celiac.com -- in which case he can write about bagels but he can't eat them.Jukka Aho wrote:http://www.dilbert.com/strips/comic/2003-06-29/
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.
Re: Lox, bagel and cream cheese
Wikipedia lists his illnesses and mentions he’s a vegetarian... but there’s nothing about him having celiac disease as well or running a related website. The Scott Adams at celiac.com looks quite a bit younger too.AldenG wrote:I've never figured out whether the Scott Adams who writes Dilbert is the same as the Scott Adams who runs celiac.com -- in which case he can write about bagels but he can't eat them.

You seem to be right, though I have a touch of difficulty imprinting and distinguishing faces. For instance, it's not immediately obvious to me that the celiac.com founder is not the same photo as Jimmy Wales, who appears in those banner appeals for contributions to Wikipedia. Fortunately I've never mistaken my wife for a hat, nor for anybody else for that matter.
But the cartoonist certainly appears to be thinner than the celiac guy, and silver-haired. Plus with all the personal detail about the cartoonist's illnesses, they would have mentioned celiac disease if it were one of them.
I'd say you settled it for me.

Your comments confirm you are a jerk - and if it wasn't for your Middle Eastern name you would seem to be a confirmed puupää/juntti from east of Salla. Have some sweet and sour nakkis!!Re: Lox, bagel and cream cheese

Yeah, and fat good it did to them in the long run eh?
Who is the "big brother" today?
Who said mussels were Finnish - but there's a slew of them just down the street in DK
You are the guy trying to tell how things must be brought here. Like those mushrooms. You are so thick you are missing stuff which is native to Finland and in many cases can be superior to your "fancy" products.
Cultivated mushrooms < chanterelles.
You just came to Finland eyes closed, certain of your own backgrounds absolute superiority and apparently never once bothered to look what natives had already found to be good in their own view.
Walk down your CM aisles and you will find at least 80% which were not in Finland 40 years ago!
Yeah, because 40 years ago there was no resources to keep marginal products in the shelves in faint hope someone buys it.
And people were used to making most of their food from raw materials. No ready prepared chicken slices.
That was in 1970 - it would be BOOMING today - imagine THAT!
So basically you haven't got a clue on what is current preference of Finns. Tastes change, but you were too thick to figure out that your idea was not compatible with Finnish taste. But ultimately, every thai/chinese/whatever restaurant still has to adjust "real" recipes to fit local preference.
Take pizza. "Real and original" pizzeria with only "the one true pizza" (IE, only tomato sauce on top, unless you want to be heretical and add cheese too) would be...
Abysmal failure.
If you want to eat turnips your whole life, be my guest. (I do wonder what cave you have recently emerged from. You seem to have NO idea of what has been going on on the 'food front' in Finland - I appreciate my tone of reply is 'sharp' but I don't feel your message was quite the 'friendliest')
You are an arrogant ass who thinks he is God's gift to Finland and that we unwashed natives should be on our knees thanking you for trying to "civilize us". Is it any wonder that you failed in your business and your reception amongst the natives is less than friendly?

But, of course, "Aryan" is no longer PC.... the terminology now is "Indo-European".... and besides the Herrenvolk, their despised Untermenschen are also included....

The aryans are indo-europeans but not all indo-europeans are/were aryans ("hauki on kala vaan kaikki kalat eivät ole haukia"). The aryans invaded "middle-east" ca. 1500 bc. and subdued native hurrians of Mitanni. They worshipped gods like Mitra,Varuna and Indra. They formed only the ruling minority of the society, and quite opposite to what happened in India,(few that they were in numbers)they were integrated and asssimilated to native masses.
Then there were other, non aryan, indo-european speaking folks coming to the area like the hittites, the philistines and the hellenes of all sorts.
There are folks who would say that Persia is in the middle-east too. Finn that i am,i speak of near east(lähi-itä) when the anglos refer to the middle east.
The middle east,in my book comes very close to central asia, which easily accommodates persia with persians proper, the medes, parthians, kurds etc.

Meat cured under the saddle of a raving Magyar is apparently the next food item? Does it go well with a bagel?

Re: Lox, bagel and cream cheese
Just two nights ago, I ate something described as a Persian bun or Persian donut. (I was quite Hungary, you see.) It's basically a korvapuusti with a traditional American donut glaze on it. That was the first I had heard of Persians in the bagel context.
Named for General John Pershing, so they say.
Isn't that every military man's dream of glory? To have a donut named after him?
Well, there are also the Pershing Rifles, apparently some kind of college-level military ballet group.

Re: Lox, bagel and cream cheese
If referring to Tiwaz, that's about as Aryan a name as Raden Djuanda Kartawidjaja - and otherwise a dead ringer for a Middle Eastern moniker which is all fine and good if we could get some good couscous recipes but this yokel is trying to pretend to be one of those maajussis and an expert on gourmet turnips which we are all supposed to worship as divine delicacies and only suited to the Finnish 'taste.'Aryans are middle-eastern?
(Now damn if we could only get Habanero Chili to have the taste of Karhu III - or Roquefort Cheese to taste like Leipäjuusto - damn those foreigners - they keep coming up with these challenges to our 'berry and birch bark' diet - Dr. Atkins ain't seen nothing yet - wait till we get going on those spruce stumps - no one will want turnips anymore - but THAT'S progress! !)

Tiwaz, Teiwaz and so forth is proto-germanic name for rune which equals god Tyr in old norse mythology.jmakinen wrote:If referring to Tiwaz, that's about as Aryan a name as Raden Djuanda Kartawidjaja - and otherwise a dead ringer for a Middle Eastern moniker which is all fine and good if we could get some good couscous recipes but this yokel is trying to pretend to be one of those maajussis and an expert on gourmet turnips which we are all supposed to worship as divine delicacies and only suited to the Finnish 'taste.'Aryans are middle-eastern?
Tells how much you know of things. Tiwaz has nothing to do with either aryans or Middle East.
And being Finn, born and raised, I damn sure have whole lot better idea on Finnish preferences than some asshat from abroad who comes to Finland with idea of being so much wiser and better than natives in everything.
