From web designer to kiinteistöhuoltomies

Post by soulfromhighplayces » Fri Feb 04, 2011 10:26 am

Phew...I worked as a web site and graphic designer for three years in home country and ended up doing my job practice as a kiinteitöhuoltomies, real estate maintenance man...hmmmm..its more like from easy work to tough Job...The kinda hard work that lies in kiintettöhuolto is nothing compared to web designing..Kiinteitöhuolto is more like a labourer kinda jab..especially during the winter period, when you have to shovel and break ICE..phew! :( My first day at job practice was like sleeping on broken rocks....The part i don't really like is recycling thrash..I almost gave up..but looking at the fact that...as a foreigner,I really should be thankful even doing my Job pratcice...You damn right if you think 10 thousand immigrants will cast lots to get the job i have today..however the question is---Am i doing the right thing switching lane from web designer to maintenance man if i happen to get the jab as a maintenance man even tough sometimes i feel disgusted recyling the thrash :? ? Hey that reminds me,who knows the salary of kiinteistöhuoltomies..some say its not more than 1500 euros, that will be crap thinking about the kinda labour that comes with the job..

Salary depends a great deal on region where you live, maintenance guy in HKI area might make more than one in Nowheremäki, but you won't be getting much.

Why so little? Because much of what you will be doing is manual labor with few required skills.

Skills required = money paid.

Of course, once you get into high enough position your skills no longer correlate with your salary but rather your salary increases correlate with your salary. But maintenance guy is at opposite end of scale.

I would say be pleased yo finally have a real job and not some crappy job in an office. Even though the manual labourer/ kiinteitöhuoltomies/builder is not paid very much no one would miss half the office staff or web designers if they vanished tommorrow but how quick will people complain and notice when their rubbish isnt moved or their lights/doors/water not fixed. All these things are essential but unappreciated.

What do you mean by "job practice?" Is this something a school has arranged that you must complete before getting your degree in IT?

Or the job is trying you out for 3 months to see if they will hire you permanently?
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

My father always told me: you need two jobs, one you can do with your hands and one you can do with education. That way you will never end up hungry.

Btw the kiinteistöhuolto job will improve your Finnish immensely. And if you get your plumbing, ventilation and electrical certs you start getting into good pay.

Irrelevant for maintenance work.
And there are skills in maintenance work like driving those heavy snow machines...
Which does not require weeks of training.
and changing locks..
By locksmiths.
and so many more...hmmmm so labourers shouldnt earn much cos according to u they don't have skills?
Mainly it is question of how large is potential employee pool compared to how many are requires, as well as how time/resource/money consuming it is to train one to be relatively proficient in their duties.
Or shoud i jus be looking for a web designing job?
It is my understanding that it is not route to great success either. Lots of web designers out there... Maintenance guy might actually be better in long term.

As for certifications, I think they require visit to vocational school. Doing electrical stuff tends to require one to have studied to be electrician.
