Lads Weekend in Helsinki

Post by morlspin » Wed Feb 09, 2011 1:22 am

Hi All

Hope everyone is doing well and this is my 1st post, so apologies if ive missed any relevant info before posting.

Basically, there will be around 10 guys coming to Helsinki for a weekend, we enjoy poker, drinking, strippers etc.....your general lads holiday.

What we cant seem to find anywhere, is either a guide to having a lads type weekend in Helsinki or any information of things to do.

Any advice, recommendations, fun things to do, would be much much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Graeme

Oh, sorry to disappoint ye lads, but the only thing lads do in Finland this time of year is sit around a hole ice-fishing.

For all that other stuff, we hop on a ferry to Sweden or Germany.

Maybe you could bring some fun along with you? To share, I mean?
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

There is no getting around the fact that someone chose the wrong capital for a lad's holiday... Tallinn or Riga would have been much more sensible for a 'Baltic' lads weekend.

Skiing lads week in Lapland on the other hand might be worth considering.

Anyways... the only half bearable girl bar in Helsinki is Alcatraz which is located at Eerikinkaku 3, however its webpage has gone down... maybe it has closed, but I think not. The rest are aweful...
Beer... you can find lots of bars, but try Molly Malones on Kaisaniemenkatu. Poker... difficult.
With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine.

I have only been there for the Dinner and Show things with the wife... does not seem like a lads weekend sort of place... but heck it depends how old they are.

Probably a pretty small market, not worth writing a guide for.

Agreed. And what entertainment you do find, be prepared for London prices, or higher.

Might be worth while looking at a "cruise" to Tallinn, to see what your Finnish counterparts get up to...

I have been to many cities in the world , and Helsinki had great stuff for a lads night out, I do not know where most of you hang out, but dig a little deeper and you will find everything you need for a great weekend, but yes as winter is here the ladies do wear more :-)

Maybe, but it is well hidden... it is 'in your face' in many cities, and that is what you like to see on a lads weekend... do you have to 'dig a little deeper' in Tallinn, Riga, Amsterdam, Prague, Budapest, Paris, Madrid, London... let alone Asian cities or American cities.
I do not know what cities you have been to, but I have been able to find great places very quickly in most cities I have been to... but in Helsinki it is much more difficult... tried 5 different girl bars in Helsinki with customers and never found a decent and reasonably priced one. And there is go-karting/ paint-balling etc everywhere so I am sure they do not go all the way to Helsinki for that.

Rock: Bar Loose, On the Rocks, Virgin Oil, Tavastia, Nosturi

Rock/Funk/Club/Etc: Le Bonk, The Circus

Clubbing/Electronic: Playground, Club YK, Bar Nolla, Kuudes Linja, NEO Helsinki
Calendar for clubbing: http://klubitus.org/kalenteri.php?

Mainstream: Apollo, Tiger, Onnela

Sports bars: Sport Pub Chelsea, Sports Academy (football on the screens)

Jazz/Soul: Storyville

Kallio district: cheapest beer, ragged, normal and also stylish bars...and a lot to choose from...I mean the place is full of bars. Plus few small strip joints/sex shops. Kallio district is where people often start their evenings and then later on go to some clubs in "downtown" area.
