Big Construction Projects in Finland

Post by BartS » Mon Mar 21, 2011 1:30 pm

Those who know more about these projects can help foreign firms to offer their services to the projects below.
Under construction is The Helsinki subway network. There will be new Subway stations to the West of Helsinki. (Espoo)
Under construction is so called Marja-rata or Kehä-rata. This is a new railway connecting Helsinki-Vantaa Airport with Vantaa suburbs.

Under planning is the new big house project at Kalasatama Subway station. According to plans there will be 5-7 skyscrapers.
Under planning is the new house project for Sipoo. (around 7000 new small houses)
Under planning is the extension of Subway network to the East. (To Sipoo and to Hakunila, Vantaa)

In Lappeeranta there will be a new mega Shopping centre for the increasing tourists flow from Russia.

I heard also that the Highway E-18 is getting extended to the East of Helsinki. Up to the Vaalimaa Border station.

And if no one is helping you here to get more information on the above projects, you can send private mail to me. I may have time to find further information
on the mentioned projects.

As nearly as I can tell, every one of those projects requires fluency in the Finnish language.

It depends on the position, I guess. Architects are often from abroad. At the Olkiluoto nuclear plant construction site there are many employees outside Finland.
(From Poland, for example) In generally many construction workers here are from Estonia.

Also in Tampere there should be a pretty huge construction project. (a new ice-hockey arena?)

(The new nuclear plant comes from French Areva, http://www.areva-np.com)

In the EU, we have this free movememt of labor force. Thus the projects are more and more international.

In the EU, we have people who are willing to work for less. Thus the projects are more international. And there are more and more stories how Finnish contractors subcontract to eg Estonian firms that don't know all the rules and regulations here...

Also because the public projects must meet EU competition rules:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government ... pean_Union

Certain projects must be published in the Official Journal of European Union. I could not figure out whether certain projects of private sector must be published in the journal as well. It's a Rather complicated system. Just found out that Ted is a part of the Official Journal and the projects are actually published there:
http://ted.europa.eu/TED/search/searchResult.do

There are 40 "public" projects from Finland listed:
http://ted.europa.eu/udl?uri=TED:NOTICE ... HTML&src=0
I don't know whether the above link works but in Kuopio there are 6 construction works:(all with detailed contact info)
And rather weird that the offer must be in Finnish language
IV.3)ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION
IV.3.3)Conditions for obtaining specifications and additional documents
IV.3.4)Time-limit for receipt of tenders or requests to participate
6.5.2011 - 15:00
IV.3.6)Language(s) in which tenders or requests to participate may be drawn up
Finnish.

I don't really understand whether it makes any sense to publish these projects in the journal if the language used must be Finnish all the time.

Sometimes I think that Estonian companies know better the rules and can apply for these European projects and Finnish companies can't.
btw, there are also EBRD projects. One in Russia at least.(Official language of the tender is Russian. Tenders shall be submitted in the original in both Russian and English languages)

In France there are most projects(190) and at least in one of them the language used is French
(Language(s) in which tenders or requests to participate may be drawn up
French.)

This is European Union! :ochesey: Free movement of services if you can 30? languages..

Are there any other ways of finding out about new building projects in Finland, besides Rakennuslehti.

In particular, are there are contract leads services available in Finland, similar to ABI or Glenigan in the UK?

Any ways of finding new building jobs in Finland would be welcomed!
