Seeking Paid Web Programming Help: E-Commerce Storefront

Post by chrisryan » Mon Mar 21, 2011 10:43 am

My wife's small business is in need of a Finland-based e-commerce storefront, shopping cart, and automatic payment remittance function (an auto-sent email receipt with bank transfer instructions). I've built a good number of web sites, but have met the limits of my skills in creating such a module. I'm specifically looking for help in building the commerce module and then being able to maintain it myself.

If this is something you are interested in helping me accomplish, please contact me privately. I'll need to know approximately what you'd charge, as well as any links to similar work you've done. If that's too vague and you need more info, just let me know. Our budget is small, but we want to do it well.

Thanks!

Chris

Don't invent the wheel again. Look for oss solution and help with configuring it or buy it as a service.

I looked into teaching myself Drupal, but stalled. Any suggestions where to start?

I've only used Joomla myself.

When we outsourced development of my company's website we told the company to "base it on an open source CMS system (e.g. Drupal, Joomla, mambo)". They chose drupal (which I guess is the most technical).

If I were you I would
1) Identify the CMS system with existing modules for your payment method. In Finland this would probably be the bank transfer re-direct thingy (tupas)
2) Find an example web site that's close to what you want
3) start hacking

Enjoy...

You can always find a freelancer on freelancer.com when you are lost in codes.

Numerous ready made solutions out there.

If your web store requires extra, custom features, then I say pick one of the those open source ecommerce platforms and develop on top them.
Eg of those open-source platforms include: oscommerce, magento, virtuemart (joomla), zencart, etc.

However, if you wish for ready made and simple solutions, I suggest you buy it as a service and relieve yourself of all the burdens of 'reinventing the wheel'. My recommendation is : http://www.clovershop.com/index_fi.php (Popular amongst many Finnish web stores)

Do you understand the pricing breakdown for this service? It's translating as "perpetual" or "periodic"; so she'd pay once a month for as long as she uses it, or can pay the "perpetual" fee one-time (or until the software needs to be upgraded)? Does anyone have a better interpretation?
