Private Chef needed URGENTLY - 20-23 April

My company is looking to hire a private chef during the time period of 20-23 April 2011 in Levi, Finland. The main duties would include planning, buying, preparing and cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner for a family of four to five individuals. European and home-cooking style foods are expected on the menu. Seperate accomodation will be provided. Chef must speak English and/or Russian. Travel expenses can be negotiated. Chef should be in Levi by the 19th. References are a must! If you are interested please call me between the hours of 9:00-22:00, also on Sunday. My number is 040 900 7686. Your company is really good in planning are they? Oh yeah next week we need a chef and it should not mather that it is eastern or somewhere in Lapland does it

Always possible. but in this situation they should be glad if they find anyone on such a short notice.
Instead the come with several demands and restrictions:
- Chef must speak English and/or Russian.
- Travel expenses can be negotiated.
- Chef should be in Levi by the 19th (from most places in Finland it's a day travel)
- References are a must!

And this forum is not the first place you would start to look for a replacement.
It probably means that all the local resources already have been tried.

It seems my post has drummed up some interesting conversation. Thanks for your interest! I suppose this means none of you are interested in the Chef position?:)

I decided to go ahead and give some information since the reasons behind my post seems to be of interest. My company has been successfully operating since 2005 (by the way, we serve in English, Finnish and Russian languages). We do our very best to fulfill all requirements of our customers who are coming from various countries to visit Finland. That means, fulfilling last minute requests. We received an order late last week and within that request was the need of a private chef - the requirements we mentioned in our post were given to us by the incoming customers. Was it a last minute request on Finlandfourm.org? YES - absolutely! Is it the first place we turned? Absolutely NOT! For the reasons mentioned in your posts (Easter holidays, location, language, and timeframe), we have found it difficult to locate a chef using our usual contacts. However, I'm happy to report that our post on Finlandforum.org has given us some potential candidates, if not now for the future. I am happy to report that we have found a chef who meets our criteria and who so happens to be a professional chef.

While you may find it mind-boggling to post such kind of requests perhaps it's worth considering that we used the word URGENTLY in the title. Not to mention, this IS a job forum so I do not believe it is beyond the realm of possibility that such kind of posts would show up here from time-to-time. And, as one user stated it could be that someone cancelled. There are many reasons for which people post on these forums. I personally believe these forums shouldn't be a place of unnecessary ridicule or insulting comments. Perhaps you could better serve by posting only when you have something useful to contribute. I appreciate the considerate comments of the posters who gave the benefit of the doubt in this situation. I also appreciate the private messages received from other forum readers who shared their comments and encouraging feedback!

First you started nicely but then you start about insults, what was the insult here? Ofcourse you can put here any 'legal' request but in this still free country we are also allowed to give comments. I was however thinking about that American chef who came to Finland and was paid to keep on travelling.

Hi Rick,

I was in no way hurling insults to anyone. I was, as you said, simply expressing my freedom of speech:). The insulting comments I referred to were more-or-less the sarcastic remarks you made in the first post. Of course you are entitled to write whatever you want. I was simply suggesting that forums could better be served with useful remarks. As you probably deduced from my post, I was in a rather tough situation. A situation which didn't need to be added to with more stress by needless comments. Anyhow, if it made you feel better to start that type of discussion then so be it. I found the person I was looking for, someone else has a job who possibly needed it, and my company will be able to meet the needs of our customers. Everyone is happy in the end.

I'm not familiar with the "American chef who came to Finland and was paid to keep travelling".

Thanks for the feed back. It is always good to hear how a situation has developed.

We received an order late last week and within that request was the need of a private chef - the requirements we mentioned in our post were given to us by the incoming customers.

I have to admit that this possibility crossed my mind (I do have experience with Russian clients and their attitude) and it made the situation for me less attractive.

However, I'm happy to report that our post on Finlandforum.org has given us some potential candidates, if not now for the future. I am happy to report that we have found a chef who meets our criteria and who so happens to be a professional chef.

Congratulations. Due to the limited number of culinary topics here, I never expected that.

No problem, Nice easter to you too.

It was a program about an 'Italian' American cook that was travelling over Europe etc. and cooked for everybody, mostly restaurants to pay his way for travelling and accomodation. He was also in Helsinki and went to Lapland to cook for a wodka party.

I almost contacted you too as my son is training (Perho) to be a chef (speaks good Finnish and fluent English) and he could have stepped in at short notice. Unfortunately the timing is not good for him as he is just about to start a placement in a restaurant in Helsinki. I think this is a great place to advertise vacant posts.

But keep posting the job offers.

To be honest, I had no idea what to expect when posting the job advertisement on this forum. But, I'm pleasantly surprised at the new contacts I've made through it! By the way, the chef we eventually hired came through a local contact in Levi. But, we hope to keep in touch with the people we've met through this forum since the situation I mentioned does happen from time-to-time.
