Or you could ease your boredom by starting to learn Finnish. It's going to net you much more contacts long term than expecting Finns to start speaking English for your benefit. Finns will prefer their native language.Lulz wrote:Ive been livin here for almost a year...I cant speak finnish either. But i dont even have kids :S Im bored to death! Can i go to those families groups alone? I have a finnish boyfriend and his friends are ok but i think we need to meet more people, people willin to talk all the time english like us. Any ideas?

And I am telling you that you are going to be sorry for that decision in long term because it leads you to clique up with only foreigners, which in turn means you reaching any proficiency in Finnish will become that much more difficult.Lulz wrote:Really ? people like to speak their own language? i didnt know that! It is sound advice spoken of by number of immigrant members of this board. They CHOSE to limit their contact with other immigrants and AFAIK they are living their daily lives rather proficiently in Finnish these days.

chinese places are cheap and good!oompah18 wrote:I haven´t actually got to any groups in Tampere lately, it´s not the bus fare, but the question of where to eat cheaply with the kids. I usually buy 1 adult meal & share it between all of us, like soup & salad & bread, with a jug of water, but nothing is cheap anymore! It is easy in summer of course, when you just make sandwiches & sit in the park!... But I was wondering if there was a favourite place for mums & youngsters that was cheap (ie not stockmans or sokos!)

In International Coffee House you can spend your time with other people from different countries and cultures. We speak English there and other languages, too. All the families, also children, are warmly welcomed!
Our church organizes some Finnish courses. Next might start at autumn or maybe in summer time. Check out these sites for further information:
