Although these online translators have improved a lot over the last couple of years, i think it will be many years before Finnish can be translated in this way! When i used babel fish a few years ago to try and impress my husband, i came up with some very bizarre sentences!

The translations above do not read well in English, i have to concentrate to find the meaning. So the good thing is that you can get a rough idea of what the sentence means but its not accurate..

I think Finnish online translators will work once we have created AI, computers just aren't smart enough to cope with this darn language! And to be honest the terminology means that you need to have some idea of the area of work that the terms come from, I called my husband last night, desperate for help, and he really struggled to translate it to something meaningful despite speaking fluent English and of course Finnish. But then he is a computer nerd not a finance geek

The thing is to get it all into shorter modules and shorter sentences and find the object and subject and translate that first so you know who is doing what. The translator gets you "german word order". And as thats legalese its really... did I tell you I got hives from that? And I studied double bookkeeping back in the day

Yeah I got a splitting headache but I keep at it in the hope I will get a revelation and at the same time become fluent in Finnish ha! I have given my husband the task of inventing a usb interface for the human head so we can just plus in a usb stick into our ears with a language program on it and speak fluently straight away.. If a guy from Riihimäki can turn his finger into a usb stick, i think it must be possible!

Of course I'm (very) late to add to this thread, but there is a great Finnish accounting dictionary (http://www.e-conomic.fi/kirjanpito-ohjelma/sanakirja/) on the e-conomic Finland accounting software website (http://www.e-conomic.fi/). There are more than 50 terms defined at this time, and with a little help from Google translate perhaps ( ) you could easily work between the English and Finnish definitions.
