Y3 form

Post by Cipo » Sat Apr 30, 2011 3:46 pm

Hi

are there any instructions on how to fill out the Y3 form in order to build a TMI in Finland ?
Should I apply for the "Prepayment Register" (end of page 1) ? All I need is being able to invoice my consulting work and do some buy/sell of few PC Hardware items.
Should I apply for a "business identity code" (end of page 1) ?
In page2 there a field marked "operations starting at a later date". Should I state a date in case that would be much later compared the the date I am filling in the form ? I need to start ASAP so i guess I can leave it blank ?
The next would be "Contact person or company, such as an accounting firm, providing the Tax Administration with further information". SHould I leave i blank ? Cos I don't plan to hire any accountant for the moment. It wll be just me and myself.
Last page: I will register as a VAT-liable body. But what about the "Applying for a VAT liability" field ? What to fill there ?
THX

Hi,
You may already know this but there are Y3 filling instructions. Unfortunately they are only in Finnish and Swedish, it seems.
Ask your friends to sort things out.

I think that the answer is "Yes" to all your questions. If you are permanently living in Finland, you will register as a VAT-liable
body and if you are not, then you should fill "Applying for a VAT-liability body. That's my understanding.
In any case PRH-office will advice you.
One good place to visit is YritysHelsinki office in Kaisaniemenkatu 6A.
I've got a lot of help from there.

Enterprise Finland is running some more free courses in English for entrepreneurs in May. I've seen some advertisements in Helsinki Times and 6 Degrees (same place in Kaisaniemi as mentioned above)

A model example of Y3 in English can be found in the pdf link from this page: (but not particularly useful IMO)

Or call them: 010 19 4682 (9:00-16:00 Mon-Fri)

Thanks guys. I have the form/model already and saw all those links already.
Only thing missing is are instructions in English (on the same level given in Finnish and Swedish). I am kind of in hurry so I am not sure I will be able to attend any course but probably i will visit one fo those org. Can I just go there and pop in or should I call and fix an appointment ?

Hi,
It seems that the courses are highly popular. I tried to attend one in May several weeks ago,
but it was full.
You can call or visit YritysHelsinki at Kaisaniemi 6A to make an appointment.
Usually the waiting time is about two weeks, nowadays.
They give you valuable advices free of charge.

You can also walk into IntoFinland in Kamppi. Address and times are here: www.intofinland.fi

This is a Tax and Social Security advice centre for foreigners, but certainly in the past they also gave information to foreigners setting up companies.
Or call the number I gave above (in ENglish).

Thanks for all feedback, I guess I will start the process tomorrow morning with the bank account and then with the PRH (they should give also guidance there about how to fill the forms). As I understand I should anyway submit the Finnish (or swedish) version as official one and not the English translated. I need to get the VAT number and everything up and running ASAP (1-2 days max) .... thank God we are in Finland :)
Do i need to check the "Prepayment Register" ? Which benefits I can get ?
Anyone got some direct experience with the firm relipe.com which has been suggested above ?
thx
cheers

Y3 is the form you fill in to start yourself up as a sole trader (self-employed). It doesn't entitle you to any benefits, just the right to earn a living and pay tax.

I guess this way it will be easier to do biz with Finnish companies, right ?
thx

Pretty much so. If you are not in prepayment register, then everyone should assume that you don't bill, but you earn wage and all the side costs are payable not by you. Thus buying service from someone who is not registered, might incur taxes and other fees, nasty letters from tax office and unwanted paperwork.

If you plan to make a profit you should register for the prepayment register. That is nothing to do with client bills, only your taxes. Two reasons, one it is much harder to find all the money for the tax a year down the line when you have already spent it and second I think the tax man isnt too keen if you dont register and then make a big profit.
