Do you know the name of the place (places) where they originally lived? That would help. According to the population registry nearly 4000 people´s name nowadays is Suhonen. And nearly 8000 has had the name during the time there has been a registry.

But curiously according to the same registry nobody has ever had the name Putkela. Maybe you have something wrong in the name or the registry is wrong.

Based on the registry information for the name to be listed there should have been somebody with that name living in 1960's or later. If it was a name ever taken by very few people (one family) who all (all males at least) either emigrated or died without issue, it could be correct.

There was no Putkela in the online church books, although they might not have been entered yet online. Anyway, there is a village called Putkela near Ilomantsi. Might the name have come from there?

Search the "Church books" here: http://hiski.genealogia.fi/hiski?en
Select "all", "Christened", and place Putkela in "village/farm".

Suhonen is a if not common, then at least not uncommon Finnish last name. For instance this guy:
