Entrepreneurship start up worries
Re: Entrepreneurship start up worries
I don't think setting up an Oy (limited company) guarantees you any kind of visa either. Anyone can start up an Oy provided they are resident in the EU. People non-resident in the EU have to apply for a trading licence. Certain businesses (like travel agency) also require other licences. Residency and entrepreneurship are quite separate things.

you sound structured but confused .
Do not mix categories, if your main goal is to set up a business then focus on how to generate income while at school
you can for example look for a partner , and the partner should possess the things you lack , namely a Finn.
if however your main goal is residency you might want to ask your self these questions first :
1- why do you want a citizenship or permanent status ?
2- do you have another plan ?
3- after securing the permanent status ,what else ? welfare ???
my advice would be start an online business and hope that it can support you a bit while you get your degree and then move to a place where they speak English or your native language .
if that doesn't seem practical enough then come here go to school , get a news paper delivery job and try to learn Finnish while hoping for the best
and note : Finns are routine people , that also applies to their shopping habits.
so whatever business i would run i would target Americans .

I would point out that even if you get a residency permit as a self employed person if the business fails your residency permit will be invalid and you won't be able to stay in Finland. It happened to me.
The reason for this is that a residency permit doesn't become that until you have lived, worked in Finland and contributed to their state pension and unemployment insurance for at least 2 years. All the police will issue you with is a permit to show that you have registered to live in Finland. Legally they are very different.
