Finding a job with no specialist skills

Post by echoton » Wed Jun 22, 2011 8:41 pm

Hi,

Considering a move out to Finland but most people I hear from who have jobs out there tend to be ones which come along with qualifications or with a great deal of experience. I'm a 22 male, and apart from GCSE's, I don't have anything else, nor am I great at anything in particular (I know HTML language, but I don't really have a desire to pursue a career on that path, it doesn't interest me). I've also read on here that without knowing Finnish, you won't have much luck of finding what you want, but I am starting to learn.

What I want to know is, what sort of jobs would someone in my position be looking to apply for? Would I get very far?

Well... think about UK: what could you do if you didn't speak English? What jobs you would be looking?

So what have you been doing? you are 22 - have you been studying or working? you must of acquired some sort of skill! BTW: xbox gaming, loitering or general mis-behaving are not really classed as skills ......

you could find work as say a cleaner? maybe a bar worker it is the busy season? a dish pig in a kitchen is usually an option? it depends how hard you try to get a job really. i know plenty people who have arrived with your skill set and usually end up finding something. but where are you going to stay how long can you survive without work?
then again if you are on the bob dole back home you can always try to get it transferred to here after with all these open borders you can take your benefits with you =P

So what you're saying is, you're a worthless SOB where you are now and you want to come to Finland and be a worthless SOB here. Why bother? You can't be coming for the Finnish girls because they have no use for anyone who is not filthy rich.

Filthy rich and Finland... hmm, somehow that just doesn't parse... perhaps you are talking about some other country called Finland... dunno.

How about going for schooling here? Check out the forum just above this one. But with no skills and no language skills, there isn't that much possibility of finding work. There was just an article about Swedish youth going to work in Norway due to better pay there and Norway needing workforce, perhaps there would be work for you there? But, I would still really recommend for you to get some kind of schooling.
