Where to get homebrew pressure barrels?

Hi folks,

Just wondering if anyone else is into doing homebrew beer, and if so, whether you know where to get the plastic pressure barrels from? Or aluminium kegs for that matter?

What do you mean by plastic pressure barrels? Fermentation vessels / buckets / carboys / demijohn? Or is it something for serving like a party pig?

This is the only place I know of to get soda kegs from: http://shop.humle.se/se/grp/fattappning.php . But then, I haven't made a serious attempt at homebrewing since moving to Finland.

But you can also go here http://olutopas.info/ then 'foorumi' then 'kotiolut' and ask there. I've seen a few English language threads there, so they should be able to help you out as well. Actually, looking at it, there's two good English language threads on the first page of the kotiolut forum, so that might be all you need.

I've used these people for supplies, excellent service. Don't think they do the sort of pressure barrels you're thinking of though (but maybe helpful for something else):

Wunderbier - some good info there, cheers. I might end up getting a couple of kegs from the Swedish firm if I don't find anything cheaper. I haven't really looked that much at the Finnish forums, as my language skills are not quite good enough yet, but I shall persevere.

Karhunkoski - Ta, I did have a look on their site before, as they supply me with beer kits by mail order. Thanks anyway though! A pretty good company to deal with as it goes, a decent range of products which has got me started in home-brewing.

I'm now on the lookout for a cheap second-hand fridge (to convert for fermentation temperature control), as well as the kegs. This hobby was supposed to save me some money! But I suppose it'll be worth it in the long run.

And nowadays you don't even have to drive in Estonia as the beer is practically the same price at the boat.

Even if you just break even with Alko prices by homebrewing, there's still the advantage that it can be a time consuming hobby and at least you're not spending money elsewhere during a brew session. And that you'll get the beer you want.

Is there anything aside from generic lager available in Estonia? I doubt this guy is wanting to make Saku Originaal at home.

Dunno, the Rimi aisle for beers had all kinds of interesting stuff I'd never seen before.

There are good beers for sale, in Finland or Estonia, but the price!

Between four and eight euros per litre of beer, when I can make (and have made, with a little practice), just as good for a tenth of the price. And yes, it's a fun hobby, and a creative one. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a beer (or cider or wine for that matter) at home.

Besides, if you do it right, you won't end up squitting it down the loo, but in fact can make a cleaner, less hangover-inducing brew than a lot of the mass-produced stuff in the shops. As wunderbier just said, make the beer you want, how you want it.
