Hello:
I am hoping to open a dog biscuit bakery by the end of 2012 in Jyväskylä. I'm a Canadian currently living here, as a stay at home mother, while my husband completes research and his phD at the University.
My residence permit is Status A-Permanent - so I know I am able to work here without any restrictions - but am just curious if it is still 65€ to register my company name and if I have to pay that fee each year? (You do in Canada).
As well, do I apply for the start-up-money before registering a name or after? (And how much is it? I heard it was 8 grand...but not sure if this is true.)
This is what I have started in terms of surveying and sampling with dogs:

Thank you so much for all of your help.

I think you can for start-up money after you register the business with the tax office. 8000€ is not correct. It's more like 25€ per day, and that's to cover living expenses while you get the business running. That lasts about 6 months to one year; you'll go through various applications for each segment of the stipend, and at each interval the likelihood of getting more funding becomes difficult. At least this is how I understand it. Enterprise Helsinki is the place to go for all these answers. It's free and they're very helpful.

And since OP is in Jyväskylä then local TE-keskus, go bug your "unemployment office" and they should know where you should go.
Starttiraha is about same as unemployment money what you get x months to live on while you get your business running, then there is investment loans and such but thats different story and your TE-keskus can tell more what, when and how you can apply.
And that 65 fee for registering is one time fee if i remember correctly.

Iirc you have to apply for it before starting the company. Better to ask before registering anything.
