Both Upphew and I were giving our native-speaker opinion of what it sounds like to us: what kind of an image that phrasing conjures up if we were forced to take it at “face value” and come up with a meaning for it, following the usual logic of the language (in particular, the usage of the partitive in relation to uncountable words or words which might then have to be forcibly interpreted as uncountables to make any sense of it all!) Of course, you still wouldn’t use that exact construction if you were actually trying to convey such thing in Finnish.jahasjahas wrote:I don't think the original wording with the partitive conveyed anything meaningful.
