Clothes for newborn in September?

Post by Ellah » Mon Aug 08, 2011 3:47 am

What kind of outdoor suit (Haalari etc) is suitable for a newborn in September? Im due 3rd of September and I have no idea how to dress new borns this season. My older one is born in January so it was no question, the thicker - the better! So I only have thick outdoor clothes for newborns.

I have a fleece suit, but my boyfriend thinks it might be too hot. Im mostly thinking about the trip back home from the hospital.

Do you have your Kela Box? ask the midwives at the hospital and get hubby to bring in the right bits & bobs when it's time to go home - they know their stuff!

Early September may see temperatures above 20 or barely above ten. So it can be "summer" or winter overalls but not all intermediate layers. If in doubt put bit too much than too little.

No I didn't want that box. The problem is not lack of clothes. But what of it to use!

def ask the midwives, whatever you have in stock. I seem to remember a chart somewhere of when to use all the different layers - I more or less ignored it cos IMHO Finns tend to overwrap their little ones - but it is useful if you're not sure. I mentioned the Kela Box 'cos I think that was where I saw it - or maybe I got it from my midwife at neuvola - it's worth asking.

Early September won't be very cold, a snowsuit won't be necessary but a long sleeved outfit with a woolly cardigan and definitely a hat (newborn babies should always where hats regardless of the time of year) and good pair of socks should be enough - especially if you're in a car. When my LO was born, we were given a pair of woolly socks at the hospital - knitted by Marta members. A fleecy blanket if it's cold will be handy over the car seat once baby is strapped in, too.

All the best with your new arrival!

Thank you! And I agree, I dont want to overdress the baby. I have a fleece suit (pants with socks+jacket) from my older one. I was planning to use that, but my boyfriend thought it would be too hot. I guess I'll just take some bits and bobs and then see how the weather is when we go home.
